International Journal of Technology (IJTech) has become the highest quartile indexed journal (Q1) based on the Scimago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) ranking released in April 2024. This achievement repeats history in 2019. For 14 years, IJTech, which belongs to the Faculty of Engineering (FT) of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) has published quality articles indexed nationally and internationally.

Dean of FT UI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, said, “Initially, IJTech only published articles in three research fields: Management of Technology and Innovation, Strategy and Management, and Engineering (miscellaneous). In mid-2024, IJTech added the “Multidisciplinary” category to accommodate multidisciplinary and collaborative research on sustainable development. “In this category, based on the SJR ranking, IJTech is the only international journal in Indonesia that has successfully penetrated Q1.”

The increasing number of articles published also marks the expansion of the research field. IJTech presented two issues with ten articles in each issue. Now, there are eight issues with 20 articles in each issue. This places IJTech as the Q1 journal in Indonesia with the highest number of articles, namely 170 articles throughout 2023. In addition, the ratio of domestic and foreign articles published by IJTech is 40:60 with a tightness level of around 30%.

According to IJTech Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Yudan Wulanza, S.T., M.Sc., IJTech’s return to the highest quartile results from hard work and continuous improvement from the Editor Board team. “Administrative improvements to the IJTech journal continue to be carried out under UKK Veritas Technologia FTUI. It is hoped that the improvement can make IJTech journal management more professional, accountable, and focused on improving the quality of journals,” he said.

Apart from IJTech, FT UI also has the international journal interiority which has consistently remained in Q1 in the SJR journal ranking for the last three years. Interiority focuses on articles in four research fields, such as Architecture, Arts and Humanities (miscellaneous), Cultural Studies, and Visual Arts and Performing Arts.

Based on the SINTA Science and Technology Index from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Indonesia has 9,906 journals from 1,441 publishers. If traced using the Scimago Journal & Country Rank (SJR), Indonesia has 169 journals indexed by Scopus as journals of international reputation with rankings Q1–Q4 and Q Un-indexed.

Scopus uses a ranking parameter called SJR. SJR is calculated based on the average number of citations per article published in a journal from the Scopus database. In assessing journals, Scopus clusters the journals into four quartiles, namely Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4. Q1 is the highest quality, followed by Q2, Q3, and Q4.
