Depok, November 3rd 2023. As a country that has the second largest coastline in the world, Indonesia holds abundant marine resources. Unfortunately, the utilization of the potential of marine wealth has not been managed optimally. Realizing this, three State Administration Science students, Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FIA) Universitas Indonesia (UI) Furaihan Kamyl Arnazaye, Adinda Puspita Ningrum, and Rizky Indrayanto were encouraged to find solutions that could link the potential of marine wealth with the welfare of the population.

In the research they carried out, they raised a theme related to the welfare of young fishermen in the form of entrepreneurship as an effort to improve the standard of living of the community, while still adopting the values of the community itself. Through entrepreneurship, this encourages fishermen to be more prosperous, competitive, and independent.

The research results show that social intervention, entrepreneurship, and experience together have a positive and significant correlation with the welfare of fishermen. Based on these findings, the three of them proposed a social empowerment program based on experience and entrepreneurship for young fishermen in Indonesia, called the Empowerment and Innovation Program for Increasing Welfare and Entrepreneurship Action for Coastal Communities (PIPA Pesisir).

“PIPA Pesisir is a periodic program at the national level which will be implemented on various beaches in Indonesia on a rotating basis. This program involves three main stakeholders in a triple helix collaboration model, namely government, academics, and the private sector. Through analysis using the SMART model (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), the results show that the Coastal PIPA Program has met the SMART criteria, thus this program is ready to be implemented,” said Adinda.

Thanks to their research, they succeeded in becoming 1st place in the 2023 Brawijaya National Student Conference competition organized by the Student Executive (EM) of Universitas Brawijaya (UB), from 25th of August to 20th of October. This victory emphasizes their commitment to improving the welfare of young Indonesian fishermen through the innovative PIPA Pesisir program. These creative ideas are expressed in the form of scientific papers which were submitted in the preliminary round. After that, the three of them entered the final stage, namely the final presentation stage.

“For one week from the announcement of the finalists until the presentation day we ‘beautified’ the presentation so that it was not only good to look at, but the substance in our article was conveyed effectively. As a result, we delivered our presentation smoothly and we answered questions from the jury well. The three of us have started preparing ourselves by reading a lot of material and discussing for three months to raise this issue,” said Adinda.

This competition is a competition forum for D3/D4/S1 students from all universities in Indonesia who work in the field of scientific writing. The aim is to strengthen students’ understanding of entrepreneurial policies and efforts to support Indonesia’s economic growth, which are published through scientific papers.
