Center for Medical Physics and Biophysics, Universitas Indonesia (CMPB UI), which is one of the Institutes of Applied Science (LST) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI won Anugerah BAPETEN (Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency) 2022 entitled “Strategi Kolaborasi Pengawasan Pemanfaatan Tenaga Nuklir Guna Membangun Kepercayaan Publik” (Collaborative Strategy for Monitoring the Utilization of Nuclear Energy to Build Public Trust). The award was received by Head of CMPB UI Dr. Supriyanto Ardjo Pawiro, M.Sc., for the category of Conformity Testing Institute and Nuclear Training Institute, on Tuesday (8/11), at Hotel Pullman Central Park, Jakarta.

Anugerah BAPETEN 2022 Award is given to the category of license holders in the field of Radiation and Radioactive Substances Facilities; Officer for Radiation Protection in the field of Radiation and Radioactive Substances Facilities; Officer in Aspects of Safeguards and Additional Protocols; Conformity Testing Institution and Nuclear Training Institution, which have excellent commitment and performance in Radiation Safety and/or Radioactive Source Security and in terms of implementing radiation safety optimization in radiology patients. In addition, Anugerah BAPETEN Award is also given to regional heads who have a high commitment to improving the culture of nuclear safety and security through fostering nuclear power users in their regions.

The performance of CMPB UI as a Conformity Testing Institution and a Nuclear Training Institution is considered appropriate and fulfills the management and technical requirements within the scope of its appointment. Head of BAPETEN Ir. Sugeng Sumbarjo, M.Eng. said that the winners were assessed based on commitment and excellent performance in Radiation Safety and/or Radioactive Source Safety and in terms of implementing radiation safety optimization in radiology patients. “Therefore, BAPETEN will continue to encourage every institution to compete for Anugerah BAPETEN,” he said.

This appreciation is used by BAPETEN as an indicator to show that among the objectives of supervision, which is increasing legal awareness of users of nuclear energy, also creates a culture of safety in the nuclear field. Not only that, the conferment aims to ensure the maintenance and improvement of officer discipline in implementing the use of nuclear energy has been achieved.

Head of CMPB UI Dr. Supriyanto Ardjo Pawiro, M.Sc. said that CMPB UI as the Center for Medical Physics and Biophysics has been dedicated to providing conformity tests and services, as well as education and training services related to Medical Physics and Biophysics since 2014. These services include training for conformity tests of radiology equipment for hospital partners.

“CMPB UI has become a testing laboratory that has opened training services and radiology equipment conformity tests for many partner hospitals since 2014 under the Medical Physics and Biophysics Laboratory unit,” said Dr. Supriyanto.

The services provided by CMPB UI are divided into two divisions, which are the conformity testing and services division as well as the education and training division. The quality assurance division of CMPB UI is also part of CMPB UI to ensure that the quality of service and training activities held by CMPB UI is well managed.

Until now, this community service institution that was previously under the auspices of the Medical Physics and Biophysics Laboratory (LFMB) of the Department of Physics, FMIPA UI, has conducted many testing of X-ray radiology diagnostic and interventional activities in many hospitals from Aceh to Papua, with 6 training batches for the qualified examiner of X-ray radiology diagnostic and interventional aircraft and 7 training batches for radiation protection officers. In addition, CMPB UI has also held 9 batches of medical physicist professional training and 7 batches of specialist medical physicist residencies.

Dean of FMIPA UI Dede Djuhana Ph.D. expressed his highest appreciation for this achievement. He believes that this award is an honorable achievement for FMIPA UI as well as a recognition of FMIPA UI’s commitment to providing excellent service to the community through the services provided by CMPB UI.

This commitment, he said, had been proven by carrying out the accreditation process by CMPB UI from the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN) through the National Accreditation Committee (KAN) in June 2022.

“FMIPA UI continues to be committed to providing excellent service to the community in nuclear matters related to the utilization, development, and mastery of nuclear science and technology to the supervision of activities related to nuclear energy through CMPB UI services,” said Dede.

In its 8th implementation, BAPETEN gave awards to 267 institutions and individuals. In detail, there are 79 medical institutions, 134 research and industrial institutions for license holders in the field of radiation and radioactive substances facilities, 27 institutions for the category of optimizing radiation safety in radiology patients, 6 conformity testing institutions, 2 training institutions, 11 radiation protection officers, 3 officers in the aspect of safeguards and additional protocols, and 5 provinces which are DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, and Banten.
