The Faculty of Psychology Universitas Indonesia officially became a strategic collaboration partner in conducting research with Grab Indonesia. The results of this research will later contribute to new standards for the recruitment process for prospective Driver Partners to continue improving Grab Indonesia’s safety standards, which are currently above the average practices of the Indonesian ride-hailing industry.

Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, University of Indonesia, Dr. Bagus Takwin, M. Hum., Psychologist said this collaboration is part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which includes research, education, and community service. We strongly support Grab’s efforts to provide security and comfort for its partners, consumers, and the wider community.

With this collaboration, the Faculty of Psychology UI is now part of strategic partners working with Grab Indonesia. Previously, Grab had collaborated with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), National Commission on Violence Against Women, Women’s Institute, Service Providers Forum (FPL), and Indonesia Defensive Driving Center (IDDC) in formulating strategic steps, such as assisting victims of sexual violence; updating standard operating procedures (SOP) for handling cases indicated as sexual violence in the Grab ecosystem; and provide driving safety and security training to Driver Partners.

The research Overview of Sexual Violence and Risk Factors that Have the Potential to Lead to Non-Sexual or Sexual Harassment and/or Violence in Online Transportation Application Service Providers (Partners) will last for 6 months and is planned to involve up to thousands of Driver Partners in 5 cities in Indonesia.

Director of Trust and Safety and GrabSupport, Grab Indonesia, Radhi Juniantino, said, Grab applies the principle of zero tolerance for all forms of violence and harassment. This research is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the psychological factors that can trigger acts of sexual and non-sexual harassment by driver partners so we can take effective preventive action and make users feel safer. #TrustSafe by Grab.

Currently, the Grab application is equipped with more than 20 security and safety features that can protect users from the ordering, during, and after the trip. Some of these features include verification of Driver Partners and passengers using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, safety buttons, notifications for Driver Partners to rest, notifications if the trip does not match the proper route, and other features.
