In expanding opportunities and enhancing international relations, Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed back the visit of the delegation of King’s College of London and Singhasari at the University Administration Center Building, UI Campus, Depok, on Tuesday (14/02). At the meeting, the two parties resumed a discussion regarding the development of digital business and digital economy program platform.

Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets UI Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA. in his remarks said, “By elevating the digital economy, this will have a promising impact. Based on the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Indonesia’s digital ecosystem is one of the largest in ASEAN. The government has rolled out support for today’s digital economy in various forms through digital communications, infrastructure, and various other forms of programs to develop business capacities.”

Prof. Dedi added, universities need to carry out their role in the digital economy transition by contributing significantly to education such as providing Human Resources (HR) who are proficient and understand the use of technology, digital literacy, and multidisciplinary approach in today’s digitalization. He hopes that this meeting could generate various multidisciplinary perspectives to produce ideas that support this collaboration.

Responding to what was conveyed by Prof. Dedi, Deputy Vice President (Global Business Development), Dr. Helen Bailey, FRSA., said, “In conducting our commitment to collaborate with UI, we believe that UI is one of the best universities at the national and global level. This can be seen from the way UI has maintained its position as the oldest university in Indonesia and its relationship with international partners. We are looking forward to doing further exploration with UI in the collaboration that will be built.”

She further emphasized that the focus of discussing cooperation in this meeting is the relationship between the two universities in carrying out one of their specializations related to the economy to industry and partner industries. King’s College London, CEO of KEK Singhasari, David Santoso, said that this collaboration is a good momentum to discuss the economic sector, especially in providing benefits for King’s College London and UI.

Together with Prof. Dedi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UI for Education, Research and Student Affairs, Arief Wibisono Lubis, Ph.D. was also present on the occasion. He explained that having a follow-up meeting to discuss collaboration with FEB UI is such an opportunity in regard to the focus of collaboration on master science and the digital economy. “FEB UI has several courses that intersect with digital economics programs, digital marketing, and so on which we can discuss together in more detail later after visiting the faculty. Meanwhile, in the context of research in expanding collaboration, FEB UI has specific clusters in the economy field, such as digital economy, blockchain technology, and plans for the future related to the sustainable digital health industry,” said Arief.

Furthermore, the expansion of collaboration related to inter-university mobility of students and academic personnel is also a potential for collaboration that can be jointly explored in the future between the two universities. The possible collaboration can appear in the forms of double degrees, student exchange mobility between universities, research, postgraduate, and master’s degree with UI faculties that also participate in integrating cooperative relationships in academic development goals.

This collaboration meeting was attended by the UI party: Director of Cooperation UI Dr. Toto Pranoto, S.E., MM; Director of Student Affairs UI Dr. Badrul Munir. ST., M.Eng. Sc., Ph.D.; Head of International Affairs Office UI drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.KKK, Ph.D., and officials from work units and faculties. The delegates from King’s College of London and Singhasari who were present on the occasion were Global Business Development Manager Dr. Lian Liu; Vice Dean International, Faculty of Law, Professor Alex Turk; Head of Arts Faculty of Arts and Humanities Professor Hugh Bowden; Head of School in Security Studies, Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy, John Gearson; and International Relations Manager Singhasari Nathania Limanto.
