Depok, June 13th 2023. Universitas Indonesia (UI) delegation traveled abroad to meet with strategic partners, namely 10 leading universities in England, to discuss expanding cooperation in the fields of research, innovation, and education. The ten universities are University of Oxford, Imperial College London, The University of Manchester, University of Leeds, The University of Sheffield, University of Birmingham, University of Nottingham, Newcastle University, University of Glasgow, and University of Strathclyde.

The delegation was led by UI Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris; accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU.; as well as staff from FTUI, on 7th–17th of June 2023. Prof. Haris considered that this expansion is necessary considering UI’s position is now increasingly reckoned within the international scope.

“UI has just received global recognition through its ranking in the top 20 in the world for THE Impact Ranking 2023. This position must be maintained or even improved. One of the efforts to increase this is carried out by collaborating with international partner universities so that the learning received by UI students is richer with broad impact on the environment and global society,” said Prof. Haris.

Previously, UI and ten partner universities in the UK had run several collaborative programs, such as Joint Doctoral, Student Mobility, Double Degree, Joint Degree and Student Exchange. However, of the 14 faculties, 2 schools, and 1 educational program at UI, not all of them have run the program.

The cooperation between UI and The University of Leeds which is run by FT in the form of a Double Degree program will be expanded to other faculties, namely the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Meanwhile, the collaboration between UI and the University of Birmingham, which was previously run by FEB for the Double Degree program and the Faculty of Computer Science for the Joint Degree program, will be expanded to FT.

At the meeting, a collaboration was signed for the development of double degree undergraduate and postgraduate programs at several partner universities. This collaboration is devoted to engineering-related subjects, such as Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Other collaborations that are being carried out are research collaborations in the energy sector, as well as exploring double degree programs for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.

With this collaboration, Prof. Haris hoped that UI could continue to provide the best educational facilities for students and provide opportunities for lecturers to improve their abilities through continuous innovation research whose benefits can be felt directly by the community. This collaboration with international partners is also expected to be able to enhance the positive image of UI and Indonesia in the eyes of the world.

In addition to expanding cooperation, the delegates held a meeting with the Education Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy and visited the QS World University Ranking office in London. They also met FTUI alumni who are currently studying in England.
