“Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want, because the person wants to do it,” as stated by Dwight D. Eisenhower, army general and 34th president of the United States. “You don’t lead by hitting people over the head–that’s assault, not leadership,” he said. Meanwhile, for Peter Drucker, leadership is not an attractive personality that could just be eloquence. Leadership is not making friends and influencing others, because that is flattery.

Peter Drucker argued, leadership is lifting one’s vision to a higher place, raising one’s performance to a higher standard, and developing a personality that goes beyond its normal limitations. Discussion of this leadership topic is a specialty of the UI Leadership Development Center (LDC) through training that they hold continuously throughout the year.

UI LDC is a leadership training institution aimed at executives. It is non-title under the auspices of Daya Makara UI, a special work unit belonging to the Universitas Indonesia (UI). UI LDC provides programs that support the competency of organizational/company leaders in the form of public training entitled the Leadership Development Series, in-house training tailored to organizational needs, as well as annual seminar and conference agendas, namely the Indonesia Leadership Forum and Indonesia Women Leaders’ Forum.

Next month, UI LDC will hold a seminar and conference with the theme “Indonesia Women Leaders’ Forum (IWLF)” (30th of November–1st of December 2023) at the Assembly Hall Menara Mandiri, Jakarta. The aim of holding the IWLF 2023 event is to strengthen the leadership insight of Indonesian women, provide an “outlook” for future challenges, and how women, with all their characteristics, strengths, and uniqueness, can become agents of change in building a more advanced and prosperous Indonesia. IWLF 2023 will present competent and experienced speakers from the banking, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), practitioners, academics, insurance, creative industries and other fields. More detailed information regarding this event can be seen at uicorpora.com or LinkedIn UI Leadership Development Center.

At the previous event, UI LDC carried out public training entitled “Leading with Impact” (20th – 21st of September 2023) at the ASTON Priority Simatupang Hotel Jakarta. The training discussed how to prepare yourself as an influential leader and have an impact on your members. Interesting topics discussed in the training at that time included Understanding Executive Presence, how to communicate effectively, how to behave and be confident as a leader, how to become a representative leader and create a positive image for the organization, as well as becoming a strong leader who protects a diverse environment.

These topics were presented by those who are competent and experienced in their respective fields, such as Hamdi Hassyarbaini (CEO of Bitwewe Indonesia), Tya Adhitama (Founder & Executive Coach of Navigadhi Indonesia), Agung Laksamana (EVP Government Relations, External Affairs & Corporate Communication of Freeport Indonesia), Amelita Lusia (Chief of Public Relations & Public Information Disclosure Bureau of the University of Indonesia), and Ferlita Sari (Leadership & Executive Coach).
