This ranking includes 698 universities in 50 represented regions

Depok (ANTARA) – Universitas Indonesia (UI) is the only university from Indonesia that is included in the Top 15 Emerging Economies University Rankings in Southeast Asia and the Top 150 in the world. This ranking is based on the world higher education ranking agency The Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 which places UI in 13th place out of 73 institutions in the Southeast Asia region, in the first position in Indonesia, and in 140th place in the world. “This ranking includes 698 universities in 50 represented regions which are classified as developing countries in the world,” said Head of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure UI Dra. Amelita Lucia, M.Sc. CPR in her statement on Wednesday.

This achievement puts UI ahead of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Malaysia), Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand), Mae Fah Luang University (Thailand), Chiang Mai University (Thailand), and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Vietnam). On the Teaching assessment indicator, UI excels by obtaining the 1st highest score out of 73 institutions in the Southeast Asia region. Likewise with the Industry Income indicator, UI scores the 5th highest score, and in the International Outlook indicator, UI scores the 10th highest out of 73 institutions in the Southeast Asia region.

In Indonesia, UI ranks first when compared to 19 other universities in Indonesia with the highest scores on the International Outlook (52.4) and Teaching (38.6) indicators. THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 includes only institutions in countries classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” and “frontier”. Indonesia is included in the “secondary emerging” category along with Chile, China, Colombia, Egypt, India, Kuwait, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, Romania, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

This ranking uses the same 13 performance indicators as THE WUR’s to assess institutions in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. However, this ranking has a different weight to reflect the priority of universities development in developing countries. Obtaining a ranking based on THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 is a reward for UI’s hard work in increasing the capacity and quality of research results, innovation, and community service; expanding networks and collaborations with various well-known universities in Asia, Europe and America; and in organizing programs that attract foreign students to study at UI.
