Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of Universitas Indonesia (UI), Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, accompanied by Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, visited several partner universities in Australia to develop the International Class Program.

The six world-class campuses that were the destination of the visit, which was held on July 25-31, 2022, were Monash University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, the University of New South Wales, and Swinburne University of Technology.

According to Prof. Haris, the visit aims to strengthen global engagement and develop double degree program cooperation between UI and several partners in Australia. “Through global partnerships, we are simultaneously building UI’s academic reputation internationally,” he said.

During the visit, UI leaders were welcomed by Vice President of Monash University, Prof. Abid Khan; Provost and Senior Vice President of the University of Queensland, Prof. Aidan Byrne; Associate Dean of Melbourne School of Engineering, Prof. David Schallcross; and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology, Prof. Alan Lau, and their staffs.

In addition to meeting the leaders, Prof. Haris and Prof. Heri also visited UI students who are currently taking joint-degree programs at campuses in Australia and alumni. Students participating in the International Class (IC) program come from various faculties, such as the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Faculty of Economics and Business.

While attending the graduation of FEng UI IC program students majoring in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and Civil Engineering and Architecture at Queensland University of Technology, Prof. Haris advised the students, “You are UI ambassadors on world campuses. Therefore, keep the good name of the alma mater, focus on learning, and improve your achievements because on your shoulders lies the dignity of UI and Indonesia.”

Universitas Indonesia International Class (UI IC) is an educational program organized by seven faculties at UI in collaboration with partner universities abroad. The seven faculties are: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Computer Science, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

There are two forms of cooperation in this program, namely single degree and double degree. In the single degree program, students spend one semester studying abroad in their third year and receive a degree from UI. Meanwhile, in the double degree program, students undergo a two-year study program at UI and two years at a partner university abroad so that students will get two degrees at once, both from UI and from the partner university.
