Universitas Indonesia is trusted to be one of the universities implementing the Wirausaha Merdeka (WM, Independent Entrepreneur) Program among 16 other universities. This program is one of the new flagships of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.

The WM program is intended for students who have an interest in entrepreneurship to improve their entrepreneurial competence and experience. This out-of-class experience can be recognized for a maximum of up to 20 credits through the MBKM scheme. The goal of this program is to foster a mindset and basic competencies in entrepreneurship. Through this program, students are trained to gain various experiences in the field of entrepreneurship, increase student employability, and increase the capacity and quality of university graduates, as well as reduce the number of educated unemployment.

The WM program initiated by Universitas Indonesia (UI) is titled Wira-Cipta Universitas Indonesia and emphasizes the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration within student groups in innovating and creating business ideas. A total of 189 participants from 53 universities across Indonesia from 48 study programs, namely 5 Diploma Programs, 39 Bachelor Programs, and 3 Master Programs, were involved in this program. They came from Jabodetabek (102 people), and non-Jabodetabek (88 people) from 58 cities in Indonesia: 41 cities in Java-Bali, 12 cities in Sumatra, 1 city in Kalimantan, and 1 city in Maluku.

Universitas Indonesia ‘s Wira-Cipta program is supported by Founderplus and the Export School. The curriculum and program materials are academic-practitioner formulations, a combination of entrepreneurship lectures from various study programs at the Universitas Indonesia, business incubation programs at the UIrectorInnovation and Science Techno Park, as well as training modules from Founderplus and Export School. No less than 19 field assistant lecturers (DPL), 19 industry mentors, 5 resource persons, and 3 guest lectures supported this activity in providing knowledge, experience, skills, assistance and guidance to the participants.

Wirausaha Merdeka UI activities are carried out from the end of August to the end of November 2022 online and offline. Structured online activities are facilitated using MBKM’s Learning Management System platform “IDOLS UI” and Zoom. Meanwhile, the peak “Demo Day” event will be held offline at the end of November 2022. On Demo Day, all participants will exhibit their innovations and business plans, and will present (pitch) in front of judges/investors.

There are several requirements for universities to become implementers of the Merdeka Entrepreneur Program, namely that the proposing universities are universities under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology; For Vocational Universities that can propose as Program Implementing Universities are Vocational Universities under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology; Universities that can propose as Program Implementing Universities are Vocational Universities under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

Universities have reported data on teaching and learning activities through the Higher Education Database (PDDIKTI) with a minimum percentage of 95%; Not currently subject to sanctions by therectorGeneral of Higher Education, Research and Technology; The proposing Private Universities are not in the process of applying for changes in Higher Education and changes in legal entities for the 2021 and 2022 Academic Years; Universities do not have internal problems and are not in legal disputes; Universities have implemented the MBKM program; Universities have fields, units, institutions, business incubators or sections that focus on developing student entrepreneurship; Universities have a management portfolio or achievements in the field of entrepreneurship; The College implementing the program is willing to submit a student entrepreneurship development model proposal in accordance with the provisions of the guidelines; The College implementing the program is willing to accept student participants from within and outside the College with predetermined conditions; The College implementing the program is willing to manage the program with a minimum capacity of 750 students, provided that a maximum of 60% comes from the Program Implementing College and a minimum of 40% comes from outside the Program Implementing College in the same area (geographically close); Universities implementing the program are willing to manage program finances and make a Statement of Absolute Responsibility (SPTJM); Universities implementing the program are required to appoint Field Assistance Lecturers (DPL) who are tasked with accompanying the entire process of implementing activities for program participants. DPLs who are appointed can come from the universities implementing the program or from the universities where the participating students come from; Universities that are willing to provide credit recognition for a maximum of 20 credits for the Merdeka Entrepreneur Program, indicated by a statement letter from the head of the university; Attach proof of tax payment for the 2021 tax year, and the universities implementing the program are willing to carry out and report all program activities according to the provisions by making an integrity pact.

Meanwhile, the requirements for students to be able to take part in the Universitas Indonesia Independent Entrepreneurship Program are active students with the conditions that the S1 education level is at least semester 5, D2, D3, and D4 at least semester 3, S2 and S3 – without semester restrictions (without SKS conversion), not preparing a thesis or final project when participating in the program, not participating in other MBKM programs, obtaining a letter of recommendation from the Head of Study Program (scanned signatures are allowed), willing to take part in the program full time (one semester), submitting additional documents: personal data, motivation letter, entrepreneurial idea plan, complete COVID-19 vaccination.
