Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Indonesia (FISIP UI) was chosen as host of Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM Day) 2017 that was held on Monday, March 13th 2017. The event was held on cooperation between Department of International Relation FISIP UI with Directorate General of American and European Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Indonesia.

The event was held by spirit of reminder and socialization of improving public awareness related to Asia Europe Meeting forum 2017 as mandate that was given on The 11th ASEM Summit 2016, and as form of Ministry of Foreign Affairs RI socialization related Indonesian foreign policies to public. The event was opened by speech of Dean of FISIP UI, Dr. Arie Setiabudi Soesilo, M.Sc.

ASEM is a forum of Asian and European countries that accommodate dialogue initiative and cooperation between the two continents. Topic of ASEM Day 2017 was Promoting the Role of ASEM in Connecting the Youth of Asia and Europe, in aim to promote ASEM programs related to capacity empowerment and accomplishment of Indonesian youth and to establish communication among youth related collaboration of those programs.

ASEM Day 2017 attended by representatives of 14 countries that consisted of Malaysia, Spain, Philippines, Ireland, China, Portugal, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Italy and Singapore. Those countries participated in series of talk show, exhibition and art show.

On exhibition event, members of ASEM Day 2017 presented information about education and culture. Art show session was presented by representatives of Russia and India by performing dances and singing of their country.

Director of South America and Caribbean of RI Ministry of Foreign Affairs who is also Ambassador of Indonesia to Azerbaijan, Prayono Atiyanto, emphasized the importance of youth generation role in global world order by Asia-Europe Meeting.

“ASEM potential for facing economical challenges, and young people could play a role in transforming and expanding our economics,” said Atiyanto in his speech.

Talk show session with “Relation of Asia-Europe Region” topic invited panelists from RI Ministry of Foreign Affairs, academician and representatives of ASEM embassies.

Among of the speakers of the talkshow was  Dewi Gustina Tobing (Director of Intra-Regional Cooperation of Europe and America), Ambassador Karsten Warnecke (Executive Director of Asia-Europe Foundation), Ambassador Vincent Guerend (Head Delegation of European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam), Evi Fitriani (Head of Miriam Budiardjo Resource Center FISIP UI), Edy Prasetyono (Senior Lecturer of FISIP UI), and Purwani Diyah Prabandari (Indonesia Representation of ASEF Journalist Colloquium 2015 and Tempo Media Indonesia Journalist).
