Architectural Engineering students of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia held a community service activity in Rukun Warga (RW) 10 Bhakti Jaya Village, Sukmajaya District, Depok City. At the closing ceremony, which was held on Saturday (20/11) at Posyandu Cempaka RW 10, the committee also invited the local leaders of Depok, sub-district, and community members of RW 10.

In his speech, Lurah Bhakti Jaya, Iwan Herukusumo, said that the RW 10 area is a pilot village because RW 10 has been awarded as the best green village at the city and provincial levels for four consecutive times. In addition, he also thanked the UI community service team for carrying out this activity and synergizing with all levels of society. “We hope that this activity will continue and continue to provide positive energy for the community,” he said.

Head of the Environmental Planning and Conservation Division of the Depok City Environmental Service H., Indra Kesuma, in his speech revealed the problems that occur in Depok City, one of which is the lack of Green Open Space (RTH), so he asked all levels of society and academics to collaborate to jointly find solutions to this problem in Depok City. “We will continue to make efforts to create green spaces such as parks, up to the urban village level and even at the village level as has been done by RW 10 residents,” he said. Apart from being a green space, according to him, parks can function as affordable and healthy sports, education, and recreation facilities, especially during the current pandemic.

One of the community service activities that has been carried out includes making murals on the walls of residents’ houses and neighborhood roads around RW 10 which contain messages about the importance of maintaining health during the COVID-19 pandemic and recommendations for maintaining health for children under five years old. It is hoped that through the message conveyed through the mural, the community can become aware of the importance of maintaining health during the pandemic.

In this activity, a ribbon cutting session was also held as an inauguration and as a sign of the end of all FEngstudent community service activities, followed by a review of the murals created by students of Faculty of Engineering and the youth organization of RW 10 Bhakti Jaya Depok. The person in charge of the activity, Tubagus Syarif Hidayatullah, expressed his appreciation to all parties who have supported the smooth running of community service activities so that it can be carried out until the last day.

Syarif revealed that this series of events had started on September 4, 2021, which began with survey activities, then on September 25, 2021, focus group discussions were held. Then on October 30 to November 7, the mural-making process was carried out involving the Faculty of Engineering’s community service team with approximately 10 personnel and assisted by other members of the RW 10 youth organization. “Our goal is to convey the message of the importance of maintaining health and always protecting the surrounding environment, especially during a pandemic like today,” Syarif said.

One of the residents’ representatives, Yoyok, expressed his gratitude for the community service activities carried out by students of Faculty of Engineering. Yoyok, who is the Head of Youth Organization in RW 10, also said that this is very helpful in improving education in the community, one of which is through murals. “We hope that community service from Faculty of Engineering will not be the last community service carried out in RW 10, we open the door as wide as possible for other faculties at UI to carry out community service in the RW 10 Bhakti Jaya area,” he said. At the end of the day’s activities, a highlight video was played during the community service activities and closed with a group photo for all attendees.
