Depok, September 4th 2023. Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a visit from the Police Academy–Indonesian Police Service College (STIK–PTIK) to study and understand the process of implementing institutional accreditation. The visit which was held on Tuesday (29/8) was motivated by the transformation process of the Police Academy which will become the Indonesian Police University.

Head of the Transformation, Risk Management and Evaluation Monitoring (TREM) Bureau Universitas Indonesia, Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A, Ph.D., welcomed the arrival of the Director of Postgraduate STIK Education and Training Institute (Lemdiklat), Indonesian National Police (Polri), Brigadier General. Pol. Dr. Bakharuddin Muhammad Syah, S.H., S.I.K., M.Si., with the team. In his speech, Vishnu said that his party invited several teams of experts to provide explanations regarding the development of the quality of higher education.

Regarding this comparative study, Brigadier General. Pol. Dr. Bakharuddin said that UI and STIK-PTIK have a long history and an important role in the development of the police force in Indonesia. This is proved by the presence of UI as the university of choice for graduates of Police Academy who continue their education to bachelor, master and doctoral levels.

“As we know, UI and PTIK have a long history and an important role in the academic development of police in Indonesia. In the past, our undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs were always brought from UI. UI is also in great demand, especially for the Master program of Police Studies,” said Brigadier General. Pol. Dr. Bakharuddin.

In preparing for the transition from college to university, a clear strategy regarding the vision, mission, goals and direction of higher education development is needed. To improve the quality of education, the financial aspect is a challenge that must be overcome. On that occasion, the Head of Sub-Directorate for Governance and Reporting at the UI Planning and Budget Directorate, Ronny., S.T., M.T., explained the sources of UI budget funds as a reference for STIK in preparing for its transformation into a university.

Apart from financial aspects, in the transformation process, the academic atmosphere also needs to be considered. Head of the UI Academic Quality Assurance Agency, Prof. Sri Hartati D. Reksodiputro, Ph.D., said, “What needs to be considered in this transformation is how to create a good academic atmosphere since the Indonesian Police University will not be the same as other universities. This university needs to combine the two academic cultures of the civil and police environment.”

Merging civil and police culture is important for creating a healthy academic climate. Apart from that, improving quality and developing soft skills in the era of transformation towards society 4.0 also needs attention. This is because readiness to face challenges in accordance with the vision of superior education will be a pillar in making higher education institutions a quality and relevant learning center.

“This discussion about improving the quality of education in the field of police studies provides a comprehensive picture of the challenges and potential faced in the transformation of educational institutions. I hope that this discussion will be able to provide understanding regarding university management from all aspects, and hopefully the Indonesian Police University will be realized soon,” said Vishnu.

The meeting which took place in the Meeting Room, Floor 9, UI University Administration Center (PAU), Depok Campus was also attended by the Director of SKSG UI, Athor Subroto, S.E., M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D.; Director of the UI Community Service and Empowerment Directorate, Agung Waluyo, S.Kp., M.Sc., Ph.D.; and Deputy Head of Academic Affairs for STIK Lemdiklat Polri, Brigadier General.
