Good leaders are people who are able to inspire people to dream because a dream is the key to one’s life journey. Furthermore, leaders must also be able to build and create collaborations to resolve various issues or phenomena that are currently occurring so as to provide benefits to many people. Because of that, a team can have trust in its leader, leading to the formation of healthy organization. This was conveyed by the Chief of Staff and Campaign Manager for President Barack Obama, David Plouffe, in a Public Discussion held by the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), on Tuesday (28/2).
The discussion entitled “Collaborative Leadership to Meet a Changing World” was held as part of a series of the 8th FIA UI Anniversary at Auditorium Edisi 2020, M Building, FIA UI. The first talk show activity was initiated by the Department of Public Administrative Science, FIA UI in collaboration with Berbakti Jiwa Indonesia Foundation.
Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FIA UI Dr. Fibria Indriati Dwi Liestiawati S.Sos., M.Si. said, “Leadership is crucial for us to understand. Today, we will discuss good leadership to face the changes and challenges of the world which is currently growing. Hopefully, today’s discussion can inspire us to become competent leaders in creating better collaborations.”
Furthermore, in his presentation, David Plouffe said that to gain the trust of the team, leaders must be able to inspire, listen, and have the courage to create solutions to problems that are being faced by many people. David said, today’s world also needs leaders who are able to create hope for human survival in the future by seeing and even creating job potential that cannot be replaced by technology.
“It is very important for leaders to inspire others to hope. Leaders must also create confidence for all team members to produce better changes. Leaders must be able to inspire people to solve various existing issues. For leaders, it is important to understand existing data and applicable policies, but it also needs to be emphasized that leaders must inspire people,” said David.
In this event, FIA UI also introduced a new study program, namely the Master’s Program of Public Policy and Governance (MKPG), which was delivered by Head of the Department of Public Administrative Science Dr. Teguh Kurniawan, M.Sc. Master’s of Public Policy and Governance (MKPG) is a study program in the Department of Public Administrative Science that equips students with the ability to think logically, critically, systematically, and multi perspectively. This study program aims to produce leaders who are able to work independently or collaboratively in recommending public policies and governance designs in the framework of solving public problems at the institutional, national, or global levels. MKPG Study Program graduates will obtain the title of Master of Public Policy (MKP).
