In order to realize a cooperative relationship in the fields of education, research, community service, and resource development, Universitas Indonesia (UI) together with the Meranti Islands Regency Government, signed a memorandum of understanding at the University Administration Center Building, UI Campus, Depok on Friday (26/8). This cooperation agreement was signed directly by the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA, and the Regent of Meranti Islands, H. Muhammad Adil, SH, MM.

In his speech, Prof. Dedi said that UI is very open to cooperation from Sabang to Merauke for regents who want to work together. He further said, “The signing of this memorandum of understanding is expected to have activities and programs that need each other and support many things, especially what is happening now, namely transformation in the field of higher education.”

Meanwhile, the Regent of Meranti Islands, Muhammad Adil, said that this cooperation was an honor for the Meranti Islands Regency Government, which could establish cooperation with the first university in Indonesia and one of the best universities in Indonesia.

“On behalf of the Meranti Islands Regency Government, I would like to thank all levels of the Universitas Indonesia for signing the MoU between the Meranti Islands Regency Government and UI today. Today is a tangible manifestation of the Meranti Islands Regency Government in order to improve the quality of education and superior, and intelligent resources in the Meranti Islands district,” said Muhammad Adil.

He further said that UI is not only famous and has a big name, but this university has produced many high quality human resources (HR), as well as UI alumni who are spread across all sectors of large companies and government. The hope is that many Meranti children will be able to continue their studies at the Universitas Indonesia, which is one of the best universities in Indonesia.

In addition, the signing of this memorandum of understanding is a form of government effort to fulfill the quality of education in the Meranti Islands Regency. The education sector is a top priority in order to realize the vision of the Meranti Islands regency, which is to make Meranti advanced, intelligent and dignified.

“Of course, the signing of this cooperation is one of the programs of Meranti Cerdas, which is trying to produce 5000 scholars and 200 doctors. We hope that with so many Meranti children graduating from college, the fields of work can be filled by local children,” said Muhammad Adil.

Also attending the event were Director of Cooperation, Dr. Toto Pranoto; Head of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure Bureau of UI, Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Si, CPR; Head of Meranti Islands Local Revenue Agency, Hj. Fitria Nengsih, M.Si.; and Head of Kesra Kep. Meranti, Syafrizal, S.Pd.
