Experience studying at UI through the Pre-University Program

Universitas Indonesia > News > Experience studying at UI through the Pre-University Program

Depok, September 29th 2023. Universitas Indonesia (UI) is once again opening opportunities for High School/Vocational School/Islamic High School (SMA/SMK/MA) equivalent students to be able to study and gain knowledge at UI through the Pre-University (Pre-U) Program. This program is also open to general undergraduate/master level participants or high school graduates who are in a gap year who wish to continue to the next level. Apart from being able to feel like a UI student, this activity aims to make participants understand the study program (prodi) they will choose later when studying at UI, through the Pre-U courses they take.

This program’s learning activities, which are under the Center for Independent Learning (CIL) UI, are carried out online with a system for collecting micro-credentials. The credits obtained will later be transferred into the Credit Earning System (SKS) if the participants are later accepted as a UI student. Pre-U is a short-term program that lasts 16 weeks, which is equivalent to one academic semester, and covers 14 different topics. Since the inauguration of Pre-U in August 2022, this program has received a lot of positive response from the community, and in the same year, the number of participants who registered reached 800 people who were students at the SMA/SMK/MA level.

Prospective Pre-U participants can register for this program from September 8th–December 29th 2023 (the registration period may be different for each course). The choice of courses can be accessed on the cil.ui.ac.id website after logging in using the account that was previously created.

Participants who have collected their micro-credentials for a maximum of 3 years can take part in the UI entrance selection to the study program they are interested in. When accepted as a UI student, they will receive recognition for their micro-credentials through the credit earning/Semester Credit Unit (SKS) system, in order to then complete the remaining credits of their studies.

“Credit earnings are credits which become credit savings for Pre-U program participants’ courses so that when they are accepted to study at UI they can be immediately transferred as fulfillment of those courses and no longer need to be taken,” said the Director of CIL UI, F. Astha Ekadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc. “For example, participants took the Pre-U Scientific Writing course from the UI Faculty of Psychology (FPsi) and successfully passed with a weight of 3 credits,” said Astha. He added, “Then it turned out that the person concerned was accepted as a new student at FPsi UI through any route (SNBP/SNBT/SIMAK UI), and because they had already passed the Pre-U Scientific Writing course, they only need to transfer the credits obtained and no need to take scientific writing courses again.”

This applies to other Pre-U courses that have been saved for. “Pre-U courses offered through CIL UI will continue to increase, thus in the future, credit savings through Pre-U can shorten the study period and speed up graduation in the study program of interest,” said Astha. Astha further said that UI is committed to opening access to higher education for the entire country through this Pre-U program.
