Two teams of Master of Management (MM) students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI) class of 2021 won two awards in the Gadjah Mada Business Case Competition (GAMA BCC) organized by the Alumni Family of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University (KAFEGAMA). The two teams, Team Livicha, won second place and Team Three M won third place.

In the competition, the Livicha Team consisting of Aliya Izet Adrianto, Evita Sonny, and Richard William presented about problems or business opportunities from PT Pupuk Kaltim (agribusiness state-owned enterprises). The team obtained data from the case and was allowed to use supporting data from credible sources.

According to one of the team representatives, Richard, said, “Given that we are already in the last semester, after this each of us will focus on completing our studies and thesis or research. Hopefully, the experience at GAMA BCC can be a provision for our future studies and careers.”

Meanwhile, Team Three M consisted of Meliani Nababan, Mutiara Putri Sihombing, and Mohammad Iqbal presented the business case “Net Zero Emission How Low Can You Go?”. The team analyzed efforts to reduce carbon emissions with business innovation. The data obtained comes from financial reports, annual reports, sustainability reports of PT Pupuk Kaltim, and various papers that have been published to support business proposals.

Mutiara, one of the members of Team Three M, said, “Participating in GAMA BCC was a new experience for us, as we met great and inspiring people. Later, from this victory, we will join a new competition. However, we will focus on our thesis proposal first.”

GAMA BCC is a national level competition for university students across Indonesia to have a broader knowledge of business practices in the agricultural industry, thus encouraging the improvement of the food chain in Indonesia. In addition, building relationships from various universities and practitioners as mentors and trainers who provide new insights.

The competition has five objectives. First, it encourages students’ knowledge of business principles, concepts, and practices; second, it supports students’ creativity and critical thinking in solving business problems and business sustainability; third, it encourages students’ knowledge, reasoning skills, and non-technical skills; fourth, it bridges the gap between theory and practice; and finally, it encourages students’ ability to compose and present original ideas.

The requirements that must be met to take part in the GAMA BCC competition include active S-1 and S-2 students from universities throughout Indonesia as evidenced by a letter of introduction; for the S-2 category, participants are a maximum of 30 years old in January 2022; attaching Curriculum Vitae (CV); and Student Identity Card at the time of registration. GAMA BCC participants totaled 118 teams in the undergraduate category and 41 teams in the postgraduate category. The winners were announced at Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta, on Friday (22/7).
