According to National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) report announced on November 29, 2022, after the Cianjur earthquake, 327 people died, 13 people were missing, and 68 people were seriously injured and are still being treated at Cianjur Regional Hospital. There are 108,720 refugees in total– 52,987 men and 55,733 women.

This fact moved the Postgraduate Student Association of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (HMP FIK UI) in collaboration with Board of Commissioners of Indonesian National Nurses Association (DPK PPNI) and Crisis Center (Puskris) of FIK UI, to carry out activities “FIK UI Peduli Bencana” for affected residents of the Cianjur earthquake, especially at Al Ma’sum Mardiyah Islamic Boarding School, Galudra Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency, West Java. A total of 10 FIK UI Postgraduate students who were accompanied by two FIK UI lecturers, Fajar Tri W., Sp.Kep.an and Dr. Tuti Nuraini, SKp., M.Biomed., was present at the activity.

The activity started with a survey conducted by UI party, which had already provided assistance to the location before. Then based on the recommendations from FIK UI lecturers and the agreement at the meeting attended by the organizing committee and several donor representatives, FIK UI Peduli Bencana team chose the Islamic boarding school to be the location for the event. It is known that Al Ma’sum Mardiyah Islamic Boarding School is the oldest Islamic boarding school in the region.

“Many students or alumni at the Islamic boarding school live around the school, so they were affected by the Cianjur Earthquake. According to the survey results, this Islamic boarding school is also in charge of around 400 heads of families around the school. Therefore, the committee and related parties will continue to provide assistance to Al Ma’sum Mardiyah Islamic Boarding School,” said Dr. Tuti Nuraini.

The activities carried out by FIK UI Peduli Bencana team were distributing assistance in the form of money, essential groceries, clothing, medicine, food, as well as some toys for children in evacuation tents. “I express my deep gratitude, representing the residents of the Islamic boarding school for the attention and assistance that are given to us. I am very happy that you have come all the way from Depok to have visited and provided us with assistance,” said Head of Al Ma’sum Mardiyah Islamic Boarding School KH. Yasfi Nasution, LC.

Apart from distributing aid, the team from HMP FIK UI, DPK PPNI, and Puskris FIK UI also provided play therapy in the form of playing snakes and ladders, coloring, and giving gifts to the children. The gifts were given as entertainment for the children and to relieve some of the trauma from the earthquake they experienced. The children looked very enthusiastic about participating in the activities carried out by FIK UI Peduli Bencana team. “Just stay here for a long time. Play with us. We are very happy that you come and play with us,” said Ardan, one of the children who took part in the activity.

“Based on the results of a previous survey, there were a lot of pre-school and elementary school children in that place. The snakes and ladders game was chosen because, apart from being a trauma healing game for children, this game can also be a tool to stimulate their growth and development,” said Fajar Tri Waluyanti.

Another activity carried out by HMP FIK UI, DPK PPNI, and Puskris FIK UI team was parenting consultations with mothers in the evacuation tents. This activity was directly led by Fajar Tri Waluyanti.

“We conducted parenting consultations because at the disaster posts, there was a mother who was 7 months pregnant. In addition, there was also a mother who has toddler. After observing these mothers, it turned out they don’t know how to provide good parenting to their children,” said Fajar Tri Waluyanti.

Before returning to Depok, Fajar Tri Waluyanti said HMP FIK UI, PPNI DPK, and Puskris FIK UI team also conducted health checks in the form of blood pressure measurements and blood sugar checks for residents in the evacuation tents. While checking their blood pressure, they also provided health education to residents on Sunday (27/11) and Saturday (3/12).

Health checks were carried out on 20 residents who were affected by the Cianjur Earthquake, with an average age of 30 to 50 years. Health checks were conducted in the form of temporary blood pressure and blood sugar checks. From the blood pressure examination results, the blood pressure of the examination participants ranged from 100/70 mmHg to 130/90 mmHg, whereas the blood sugar examination results were between 96-120 mg/dl.

From the results of the anamnesis, the complaint that often arises was headache due to lack of sleep at night caused by anxiety about aftershocks. “Thus, it can be concluded that the physical health condition of local residents is in a good condition. HMP FIK UI also gave aid in the form of medicines to the disaster site because there were still other medical teams at the location,” said Fajar Tri Waluyanti.
