All elements of Universitas Indonesia (UI) continue to strive to support the achievement of environmental sustainability. One of the environmental care activities was organized by the UI Student Regiment Alumni Association (Iluni) on Saturday (9/12) through the event “Go Green Expo Iluni Menwa UI 2023”. This is in line with UI’s commitment to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) launched by the United Nations (UN), especially Goal Number 13, namely Climate Action.

Go Green Expo consisted of a series of interesting events, including Talk Show Environment, Recycling Workshop, Live Music, Door Prize of an electric bicycle, to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) bazaar. Thousands of invited guests also packed the exhibition with the theme of Sustainable Lifestyle for a Better Future. Various competitions were also held, such as fashion shows as well as video and photo competitions on @iluni_menwa_ui and @gogreenexpomenwaui Instagram.

Furthermore, Iluni Menwa UI planted various tree seedlings in the UI Forest and poured Eco Enzyme in Lake Kenanga UI. This activity aimed to increase public awareness of the importance of protecting the environment as a form of love for the earth to make earth become comfortable to live in. This series of events brought new experiences that can also strengthen the relationship between the UI academic community as a community that cares about the campus and the green environment.

The Go Green Expo Iluni Menwa UI 2023 was officially opened by the Commander of the Go Green Expo Task Force, Edi Rahman, S.E. He said, “Based on the spirit of Widya Çastrena Dharma Siddha, namely perfecting service with science, soldiering and Panca Dharma Satya, Iluni Menwa UI embodies awareness of defending the country by always being at the forefront, including caring for the environment.”

Drs. Sayid Muhadhar, M.SI., Secretary of the Directorate General of Waste, Hazardous Waste and Toxic Material Management, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) was present as keynote speaker in this activity. In his presentation, he explained the importance of avoiding the use of plastic packaging. Sayid also invited companies to continue to pay attention to the issue of the dangers of waste in order to protect the environment.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Talk Show also involved environmental activists and a number of companies, namely PT. Pegadaian (Persero), PT. PLN (Persero), and PT Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia. Talk Show moderated by Steering Committee Go Green Task Force, David Chandrawan , S.T., M.M. and Dr. Yasman. MSc. was hoped to become a discussion space regarding the latest environmental topics and their solutions.

Chairman of Iluni Menwa UI, Dr. H. Kasmen, M.E said, “Iluni Menwa UI has often collaborated with environmentalists, both individuals, communities and companies, who care and are consistent with environmental issues and waste recycling.” Apart from that, support was also expressed by the Chair of Iluni UI, Didit Ratam, S.T. He hopes that this activity can strengthen UI’s commitment, which already has a green campus image, to always love the surrounding nature.
