“The disruption from technological developments has forced us to innovate in tax administration to support tax collection in the digital era. Students are the successors of the holders of future nation and state, so it is necessary to continue to innovate, especially in the field of taxation,” said Prof. Dr. Haula Rosdiana, M.Sc., a Member of the Professor Council of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), at FIA UI Anniversary Talkshow #2, on Thursday (2/3).

She further conveyed that tax innovation is based on the five scientific pillars of Administrative Science, which are Policy, Governance, Innovation, Institutions, and Culture. For this reason, tax innovation is important because now is the era of disruption and digital, such as advanced e-commerce. The next issue is how to tax it as a form of the present state in creating a presence. The Indonesian younger generation will lead the future, so it must be studied properly to create tax innovations to lead to Golden Indonesia in 2045.

Meanwhile, dr. Inayati, M.Si as Head of the Department of Fiscal Administrative Science (DIAF), FIA UI, said that such innovation is important because the current digital economy conditions and developments in information technology demand changes that must be followed by various innovations and developments that are inherent in human life. “The advancement of information technology on the one hand presents a challenge to all tax authorities in the world on how to tax digital products,” said Dr. Inayati. If the challenge cannot be dealt with by the tax authorities, then the state will erode its tax base. On the other hand, advances in information technology (IT) open up opportunities that allow the tax authorities to make new breakthroughs in tax collection.

“Today’s theme is very relevant for us to discuss because, after the pandemic, all aspects of our lives have been influenced by technology and social media. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out innovation efforts for tax authorities and tax practitioners to keep abreast of developments so that the state does not experience a potential reduction in tax collection. We will discuss it from three aspects, which are tax authorities, business people, and academics,” said Wisamodro Jati, S.Sos., M.Int. Tax., M.H., as a DIAF FIA UI Academic and moderator of this event.

Dikdik Suwardi, S.Sos., M.E., the Manager of the Tax Advisory of PT Pertamina (Persero) as the speaker in this talkshow, stated that when talking about tax management, the knowledge used is not only tax understanding but all understanding of economic, IT, legal, even business. When it comes to business, it discusses two core things, which are tax regulations and company business processes which consist of core and non-core (support).

“When tax regulations interact with business processes, we must be able to manage three components, which are strategy, compliance, and control. Then there are three things that can drive these components, namely organization, people, and IT. One thing that needs to be emphasized is that we need to know about the business processes of everything we manage so that we know how to manage the taxes,” said Dikdik.

The talkshow which was held at Auditorium Edisi 2020, M Building, FIA UI, was attended by Associate Expert Extension Function of the Directorate of P2 Public Relations, Directorate General of Taxes (DGT), Dr. Arif Yunianto and DIAF FIA UI Academic Drs. Iman Santoso, M.Sc.
