“FEB UI has produced many leaders in the field of economics, both in the government and private sectors. This anniversary can be a momentum to restart the journey of FEB UI which continues to play a role and contribute to creating a new legacy in the future. FEB UI must be able to implement the work of its predecessors by making various adjustments according to the demands of the times, demographic changes, and changes in the global environment,” Ari said in his speech, at the 71st Anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI).

This year, the theme of FEB UI’s anniversary is “Living a Legacy“, which implies a desire to pass on the best achievements to the next generation. If in previous decades, UI economists from FEB filled many seats in the government, this time FEB wants to maintain its glory by taking part with young people.

FEB UI invited young figures from the fields of economics and business to become speakers in the series of economic webinar for its Anniversary, namely Alfatih Timur (CEO Kita Bisa.com), Febrio Nathan Kacaribu, Ph.D. (Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia), Windy Natriavi(Co-Founder and CPO Awan Tunai), and Dyota Marsudi (President Director of PT Bank Aladin Syariah Tbk.). Outside the webinar event, FEB UI also held award activities, such as the Top 10 Citations Award; Top 10 Publications Award; Best Lecturer Award based on Community Service and Publications; Best Teaching Performance Lecturer Award; Best FEB UI Education Personnel Award; Presentation Design for Business Competition; and Comical Poetry Contest.

Even though this activity was held in a hybrid mode, it still showed the “big reputation” of FEB UI. The Minister of State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) of Indonesia Erick Thohir, who also attended the event online, said that FEB UI plays a very important role in carrying out business and digital transformation in Indonesia because FEB UI can help the government prepare good Indonesian human resources.

Erick said the government supports this by creating a certified internship program for students. “I really hope that students can have a career in BUMN because I have proven that young leadership in BUMN has brought many changes to the company’s performance. For this reason, Indonesia’s young generation must be given the opportunity, but of course this opportunity can be achieved if they have competence,” he explained.

The Elected Dean of FEB UI Teguh Dartanto, Ph.D. also responded to the expectations of the two leaders by saying that FEB UI under his leadership will be built with inclusive, relevant, and reputable environment. “Inclusive means providing equal and broad opportunities for all Indonesian young generation to study and work at FEB UI. Relevant means always being with stakeholders to contribute to solutions to the problems of the nation and state. Finally, reputable, FEB UI is well-known, both in academic and non-academic fields, in Indonesia and abroad,” he said on Wednesday (8/12).

The series of the 71st Anniversary of FEB UI began on September 28 and ended on December 1, 2021. The various activities included a pre-peak event that invited various figures, namely Prof. Dr. Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti (Coordinating Minister for the Economic Affairs in the 2001-2004 Period), Prof. Dr. Bambang P. S. Brodjonegoro (Minister of Research and Technology in the 2019-2021 Period), and Ira Noviarti (President Director of PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk.). These senior figures were invited in accordance with the theme “Living a Legacy” which means preserving and maintaining the glory of the past.
