Three students from the Faculty of Computer Science Universitas Indonesia won silver medals in the prestigious world programming competition International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia Pacific Championship. This was announced on March 02, 2024. They are members of the Rigor Mormist team, which consists of Pikatan Arya Bramajati, Steven Novaryo, and Arvin. The three of them defeated the semifinalist teams from UGM, ITB, dan BINUS,

Several teams from the best universities in Asia entered the world finals, including Seoul National University, National University of Singapore, and The University of Tokyo. Last year, the Rigor Mormist team successfully shot to first place in the Best National Team ICPC Asia Regional Jakarta 2023 category.

The achievements at the ICPC Asia Championship level, which will be held from February 29 – March 03 2024, are extraordinary. “The reason is, the Rigor Mormist team qualified as a qualified team starting from the semifinals of the Asia Pacific Championship to the World Finals,” said Denny, S.Kom., M.I.T., Ph.D. Fasilkom UI supervisor and lecturer who has accompanied the team for 8 years in this prestigious event. He also led the team to exceed 34,000 universities by ranking 21st, thereby winning the ICPC World Finals High Honors in 2020.

We use a flexible strategy to adapt to the wide variety of possible questions. We divide tasks according to the abilities of each member to optimize processing time. “Apart from the strategy within the team, we also observe the movement of other teams’ scores in determining their next moves,” said Steven.

He further said that he and his team practiced together to imitate the competition situations. They also take part in training camps and prepare with other international teams. In each practice, they always evaluate drawbacks.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science UI, Prof. Dr. Petrus Mursanto, M.Sc., said that the achievements were due to the high level of competency of students in competing at the international level. “Congratulations on your achievements at the 2024 ICPC Asia Pacific Championship. This showed the Faculty of CompSci UI’s vision of becoming a center of excellence for ICT development and having highly competent human resources,” said Prof. Peter.
