At the webinar initiated by the Universitas Indonesia Cooperation Directorate, the Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Johny G. Plate, also gave his views regarding the country’s development in the digital sector, the MSME sector, and tourism. He said the MSME and tourism sectors must be able to adapt as soon as possible to changes that occur in the business world.“Digital strategy alignment, a dynamic process that is continuous and requires changes that place the use of digital technology in business development, is needed by MSMEs to be able to adapt to various phenomena and changes in the business world. This process consists of five main phases, namely passive acceptance, connection, immersion, fusion, and transformation,” said Johny, who is the keynote speaker.

Furthermore, Johny said that the Government encouraged the MSME and tourism sectors to optimize digitalization in business to encourage economic recovery after the pandemic and currently in geostrategic change. “The government has rolled out various policy and stimulus packages, including the Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement, Proud to Travel in Indonesia, Asia Affirmations for Buying Domestic Products, Development of Five Super Priority Tourism Areas, and various stimulus for national economic recovery for the MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises,) and tourism sectors,” he said. again.

In particular, Johny revealed that the Ministry of Communication and Information is also accelerating the digitization of the MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and tourism sectors. As a foundation, the Ministry of Communication and Information has accelerated the development of digital infrastructure, including more than 459,111KM of national fiber optic networks on land and at sea for the purposes of telecommunication broadbandservices. Including the 12,400KM Palapa Ring fiber optic cable network which has been built through the Ministry of Communications and Informatics’ public private partnership program.

Universitas Indonesia Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., in his welcoming speech as well as opening the webinar said, “This webinar is a series of Universitas Indonesia (UI) webinar series activities with industrial partners initiated by the Directorate of Cooperation as UI’s effort in realizing the concept of pentahelix cooperation consisting of academia, government, industry, mass media, and also the community,” he said.

According to Prof. Ari, this webinar was held to discuss the policy of the digitalization strategy of the MSME and Tourism sector ecosystem by the Central Government and examples of implementation cases by Regional Government leaders or heads. He conveyed that this webinar was attended by more than 500 participants who were not only attended by the academic community, but also policy makers and ASN in the Central and Regional Governments, MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) practitioners, as well as the mass media.

in relation to economic development, regional development, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector, Prof. Ari said that Universitas Indonesia (UI) has a special work unit for service and community service under the social sciences and humanities, as well as researchers who are involved in the preparation of public policies. In addition, the development of innovation in building the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises digitization ecosystem has also been developed by UI researchers.
