Universitas Indonesia (UI) has again made an achievement as the best university in Indonesia in the University Rankings 2022, specifically in the SCImago Institutions Rankings. In Southeast Asia, UI is ranked 13th, 146th in Asia, while at the world level, UI is ranked 534th.

This achievement comes from measuring three indicators, namely research performance (50%), innovation output (30%), and societal impact (20%) which are all measured through web visibility and Scopus data processing. For the research category, some of the assessments include the number of journals, international collaborations, access disclosure, High Quality Publications (Q1), and the number of quality publications that have received a lot of public citations. For the innovation category, the assessment includes the number of publications cited in patents and the number of patent applications produced, while for the social impact category the assessment includes the number of publication ‘mentions‘ on various social media platforms and the number of visits to the institution’s website.

In 2022, UI excels in research and social impact assessment, where UI research charts during the 2019-2022 period have increased in terms of the number of publications and journals recorded in the Scopus database. All of these achievements are the result of the hard work of UI academics in producing quality research and gaining international recognition.

In addition to being the best university in Indonesia as a whole (overall rank), UI also won first place in seven Subject Areas, namely Arts and Humanities; Business, Management and Accounting; Dentistry; Energy; Medicine; Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics; and Social Sciences.

On the subject of dentistry, UI is ranked 3rd in Southeast Asia, 18th in Asia, and 87th position out of 605 universities; on the subject of business, management and accounting, UI is ranked 7th in Southeast Asia, 23rd in Asia and 104th in the world from 2,370 universities; on the subject of Arts and Humanities, UI is ranked 14th in Southeast Asia, 88th in Asia and 442nd in the world out of 1,979 universities; on the subject of Social Sciences, UI is ranked 11th in Southeast Asia, 102nd in Asia and 486th in the world out of 2,980 universities; on the subject of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics, UI is ranked 10th in Southeast Asia, 154th in Asia and 398th in the world from 2,378 universities; on the subject of Energy, UI is ranked 17th in Southeast Asia, 219th in Asia and 380th in the world out of 2,810 universities; and on the subject of Medicine, UI is ranked 11th in Southeast Asia, 236th in Asia and 479th in the world out of 2,567 universities.

SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) is a classification of academic institutions related to research as measured by composite indicators and web visibility. SIR was formed in 2009 and has published an international ranking of research institutions around the world, namely the SIR World Report. The SIR World Report is part of the work of the SCImago Research Group, a Spain-based research organization consisting of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the University of Granada, Charles III University of Madrid, the University of Alcalá, University Extremadura, and other educational institutions in Spain. The rankings were released on April 4, 2022 which can be seen in full at the link: https://www.scimagoir.com/.
