Penanaman Pohon Hutan UIThe Minister of Environment and Forestry of Republic of Indonesia, Siti Nurbaya, the Rector of Universitas Indonesia (UI),  Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met and the Mayor of Depok, Nur Mahmudi, together with 700 participants that is consists of elementary students, UI students and society, did Tree Planting activity on Saturday, March 28th 2015 at UI Depok Campus. This event was held to celebrate The International Day of Forest 2015.

This event was held on the cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, UI,  Yayasan Keanekaragaman Hayati Indonesia (KEHATI) or the Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation, and the Environmental Care Community. On this celebration of International Day of Forest 2015, there was also the signing of Memorandum of Mutual Agreement between the  Ministry of Environment and Forestry and UI related to research and environmental and forestry development.

The trees that was planted at UI Forest was the original western Indonesia species such as Meranti and rare fruit species such as Kemang, Kepel, Kupa Gowok and Bisbul. This event was made as a support on the implementation of UU No. 26/2007 about Land Use with the minimum usage target for green space 30% of urban total area.

On this event, Siti Nurbaya said that the celebration of Internation Day of Forest 2015 was one of the efforts to raise people awareness about the role of forest on lowering greenhouse gas emissions that affects on world climate change.

Moreover, Prof.Dr.Ir.Muhammad Anis, M.Met said “UI gives a full support to preserve and increase the number of green space areas at DKI Jakarta and its suburban like Depok. UI always preserves its urban forest by managing the forest environment and green spaces  on its own. However, UI also opens for cooperation with environmental care institution, just like this event that was fully supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. This kind of event is in line with UI’s effort to be a green campus along with the environmental education for society, especially for UI students and other students in general,”.
