A total of 195 students from Universitas Indonesia (UI) have successfully passed the selection of the 2022 Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scholarship program. With 195 students, UI is the university in Indonesia that sends the most students to continue their studies for one semester at well-known universities in America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. The partner universities involved in 2022 are no less than 72 universities from 30 countries in the Top 300 QS University Ranking.
IISMA is one of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka or MBKM (Independent Learning – Independent Campus) Programs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. IISMA is one of the flagship programs of the 12 MBKM programs in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MECRT) and the Education Fund Management Institute which aims to provide opportunities for students to take study up to 20 credits at partner universities abroad.
This program enables eligible fourth to sixth semester undergraduate students at universities within the authority of MECRT’s Directorate General of Higher Education to take three to four courses outside of their study program at the top 10 universities in the host country or partner universities abroad.
UI’s Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., conveyed his delight to the 195 students for successfully passing various stages of IISMA selection. He appreciated the efforts of students who won scholarship programs to various prestigious universities in America, Asia, Australia, and Europe, including the University of British Columbia, The University of Pennsylvania, University College London, The University of Edinburgh, Nanyang Technological University, University of Melbourne, University of Auckland, and Korea University.
The IISMA 2022 program aims to provide opportunities for students to develop competencies and knowledge, as well as provide study experience at foreign universities as an implementation of the MBKM program from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Through the IISMA program students can learn multidisciplinary knowledge based on their respective interests through courses for self-development and in accordance with the applicable requirements at partner universities abroad and the student’s home university. Not only that, the IISMA program provides opportunities for students to gain inter-cultural understanding, increase networking at the international level, and provide experiences for students to achieve future careers.
The IISMA program equips students with the skills needed for the future world of work, namely sense-making, social intelligence, novel & adaptive thinking, cross-cultural competence, computational thinking, new-media literacy, transdisciplinarity, design mindset, cognitive load management, and virtual collaboration. Each participant will receive tuition fees, living expenses, health insurance, visa and airline tickets, as well as costs for the COVID-19 test (PCR) and quarantine. “Previously, Universitas Indonesia also provided preparation assistance for IISMA UI applicants through the English language test assistance program for students as well as various other preparation programs carried out by the Center for Independent Learning, the Directorate of Student Affairs, and the UI International Affairs Office,” said Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Badrul Munir. “A total of 745 UI students submitted applications for the 2022 IISMA program,” he said.
