Apart from the Awarding event, the participants also listened to a keynote speech by the Special Staff of the Minister of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Dr. Kastorius Sinaga on the second day of the UI I-GOV Expo 2023.

In his speech, Dr. Kastorius explained several policy strategies to improve public services in Regional Government through digitalization. He said that around 204.7 million or 73 percent of Indonesia’s population was connected to the internet. This population is dominated by the Millennial Generation and Generation Z groups. This makes the digital revolution process a necessity.

“The government and public services are required to be more effective. This means we have to use technology and information. Indonesia is currently entering a digital-based bureaucratic reform process through the Electronic Based Service System (SPBE) or digital government platform,” said Dr. Kastorius.

The Ministry of Home Affairs supervises 548 Regional Governments to build SPBE in their respective regions. The Ministry of Home Affairs also launched four public service digitization products, namely the Administrative Services Online Information System (SIOLA), the Information and Documentation Management Officer Application (PPID), the E-PERDA Application, and the Regional Government Information System (SIPD).

At this event, a panel discussion was held with the theme “Building a Halal Ecosystem in Higher Education” with Prof. Muhammad Luthfi, M.A., Ph.D. as Head of the UI Halal Center (UIHC)as the speaker. In his presentation, Prof. Luthfi said that Indonesia, as the largest Muslim country in the world, is in second place out of 138 countries as the world’s best halal tourist destination according to the Global Muslim Travel Index 2022 standards issued by Mastercard and CrescentRating. Indonesia is also the largest importer of halal products in the world, with a nominal value of 146 billion US dollars per year.

“Currently, Indonesia has been declared a world halal hub by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. Indonesia has built three halal industrial areas, namely in Banten, Surabaya and Batam. The UI Halal Center is committed to supporting the government’s aspirations in building a world halal industrial center. We provide assistance to tenants who want to obtain halal certification,” said Prof. Luthfi. He added that the Ministry of Religion will require that all products (food, drinks, slaughtering services, raw materials, etc.) must be halal certified starting October 17th 2024.
