Successful Entrepreneurs Must Be Able to Adapt to Changing Times

Universitas Indonesia > News > Successful Entrepreneurs Must Be Able to Adapt to Changing Times

Depok, December 9th 2023. Prof. Dr. (H.C.). drg. H. Chairul Tanjung, M.B.A., founder of the CT Corp group of companies, said that an entrepreneur is someone who is able to see opportunities and seize them. According to him, a successful entrepreneur must have the ability to see changing times and read the future. He conveyed this in his keynote speech at the 63rd Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) Universitas Indonesia (UI) on Wednesday (6/12) at the Makara Art Center UI.

“Successful entrepreneurs must be able to read the momentum of change. There are two significant changes to note. The first change is demographic change. Each generation has different characters so adjustments need to be made. When times change, behavior also changes, which makes business patterns also change. Someone who can survive in this life is not the smartest or strongest, but the person who is most able to adapt and keep up with changing times. Whoever doesn’t want to change will be eaten by the times,” said Chairul Tanjung.

The second change that must be anticipated is technological change. According to Chairul, who is a Class of 1981 FKG UI student, medical technology has carried out extraordinary transformations and revolutions in terms of advancing human health. He assessed that universities in Indonesia, especially FKG UI, were very advanced in basic medical science and the formation of student skills. Chairul hopes that FKG UI can continue to develop and implement the latest technology in its teaching process.

Knowledge related to entrepreneurship is not only intended for entrepreneurs, but is also useful for dentists. Chairul said, “A dentist must understand the principles of entrepreneurship. There are dentists who are successful in having dozens of clinics because they are able to see opportunities, and their practice location is bright and strategic. Meanwhile, there are dentists whose private practices are shabby and dark, making them unattractive. “herefore, FKG UI must teach economic principles because no human being can be separated from economic principles.”

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2014 period reminded that success is not as easy as turning the palm of your hand. Someone who wants to be successful must have patience in going through the entire process one by one. “I have been going through this process for 42 years. Starting from having no employees to finally becoming a conglomerate. Most people only see the end and don’t want to see the process. In fact, the process is important and there is no instant success,” said Chairul.

Thanks to his success as a professional dentist, entrepreneur and public official, Chairul Tanjung was awarded the FKG UI Award as “Alumni With the Outstanding Performance”. The award was handed over directly by the Dean of FKG UI, Dr. drg. Nia Ayu Ismaniati, MDSc., Sp.Ort(K), and witnessed by the Director General (Dirjen) of Health Personnel, Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), drg. Prof. Ari said, “It has been 63 years since FKG UI has become an important part of the civilization in the development of dental science in Indonesia.
