Depok, 19 January 2024. UI appointed 93 professors in 2023. They increased the number of active professors at UI to 432 people. As the highest in academic position, professors play a central role in realizing UI’s commitments, especially in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) launched by the United Nations. In 2023, almost all of the research tries to answer global challenges and aims to build a sustainable world; environment, economy, and prosperity in the years to come.

Prof. Dr. Imansyah Ibnu Hakim, M.A., IPM. from the Thermal Energy Conservation Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, gave a speech entitled “Mindset of Energy Conservation: Thermal Energy Conservation Towards a Sustainable Future”. The Professor, who was inaugurated on August 30, socializes the importance of energy conservation so it can contribute to achieving one of the sustainable development goals which is clean and affordable energy and handling climate change.

Moreover, Prof. Dr. dr. Mardiastuti, M.Sc, Sp.MK, Subsp.Mik.(K) from the Faculty of Medicine, researched the application of the Problem-Based Learning approach to achieve the SDGs. In her inauguration speech, she said that the health sector has an important role in achieving the SDGs, especially SDG number 3 which guarantees healthy living and promotes wellbeing for all humans. According to the professor of Clinical Microbiology, the curriculum in medical school should implement a problem-based learning (PBL) approach that focuses on solving real problems.

In the social-humanities group, Prof. Dr. Ratna Wardhani, S.E., Ak., M.Sc., professor of Accounting from the Faculty of Economics and Business researched sustainability performance evaluation through the development of the Sustainability Performance Measurement Framework (SPMF) in supporting the achievement of the SDGs. Prof. Ratna highlighted how many companies in Indonesia face difficulties in establishing an appropriate sustainability strategy. Prof. Ratna encouraged accountants to understand the SDGs and support the achievement of sustainability thoroughly, from measurement, monitoring, evaluation, and performance governance.

Other professors from several faculties at UI also emphasized social, environmental, health, and technological problems. Each professor, with their expertise, tries to answer these challenges to achieve the SDGs. This is part of UI’s commitment to improving the quality of education and having academic leaders who contribute positively to campus and the wider community.

In 2023, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology appointed 96 professors from UI, 93 of whom have been inaugurated. 93 professors from Faculty of Medicine (38), Faculty of Public Health (5), Faculty of Dentistry (2), Faculty of Nursing (2), Faculty of Pharmacy (1), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (10), Faculty of Engineering (15), Faculty of Computer Science (4), Faculty of Economics and Business (7), Faculty of Humanities (3), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (2), Faculty of Psychology (4), Faculty of Law (2), and Faculty of Administrative Sciences (1).

UI Chancellor, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., said, “This shows UI’s determination to make national thinkers who can develop science and contribute to addressing global problems and sustainable development. With the increasing number of UI professors, hopefully, UI’s contribution will increasingly impact society and the country, support UI’s role as a superior educational institution, and benefit the public welfare.”
