Depok, June 16th 2023. Rector of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Prof. Ari Kuncoro S.E., M.A., Ph.D. appointed Dr. Parulian Paidi Aritonang, S.H., LL.M., MPP as Dean of the Faculty of Law for the 2023–2027 period, on Friday (16/6), at Balai Kirti, University Administration Center Building (PAU), UI Depok Campus, West Java. In the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Ari Kuncoro acted as master of ceremonies, while Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UI, Dr. (H.C.) Noni Purnomo B.Eng., M.B.A., and Chairman of the UI Academic Senate, Prof. Nachrowi Djalal Nachrowi, MSc., MPHil., Ph.D., acted as a witness.

Dr. Parulian replaced the previous dean, namely Dr. Edmon Makarim, S.Kom., S.H., LL.M. His appointment was based on the Rector Decree of Universitas Indonesia Number 678/SK/R/UI/2023 concerning Appointment of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia for the 2023–2027 period.

In his speech, Prof. Ari congratulated Dr. Parulian Paidi Aritonang, and expressed hope that under the leadership of Dr. Parulian Paidi, FHUI will continue the progress that has been going on so far and bring FHUI as a leading faculty in the country.

He alluded to the importance of a leader knowing what the faculty needs. Leaders must be able to negotiate, persuade, and also storytelling .

He said, in engagement, storytelling is important as the topics raised in the discussion are things that are collaborative in nature. This becomes something complex, especially if it is a consortium that is working together, not just bilaterally, but multilaterally. This requires the leadership from the dean, department heads, and study program heads to be able to see it as a wider opportunity.

“I believe Dr. Parulian is able to work in a new global situation like this, bringing new enthusiasm and inspiration to FHUI. Every leader has a different leadership style, but they have the same goal, which is to bring UI to a better and more advanced direction with the principle of continuous improvement,” said Prof Ari.

On that occasion, Prof. Ari also thanked Dr. Edmon Makarim, S.Kom., SH, LL.M., who has held the mandate and carried out his duties as Dean of FHUI for the 2019–2023 period and is dedicated to UI. All the outstanding contributions from Dr. Edmon Makarim will remain as a legacy at FHUI.

During his leadership, FHUI played a strategic role in the government, either as a guardian, builder or legal catalyst. In the last two years, FHUI has taken part in the preparation of the National Legal Development Index and Access to Justice Index with Bappenas. In addition, FHUI also plays an active role in the cooperation for Three Principles of Higher Education, especially in the field of law, with ministries and government agencies, such as the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/BPN, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Audit Board of Indonesia (RI).

After the inauguration procession, Dr. Parulian expressed his hope to carry on the legacy that had been inscribed by the previous deans and ensure FHUI’s character and excellence. “In the future, this leadership will follow UI’s vision and mission. We at FHUI will re-brand and further strengthen FHUI’s position at UI, Indonesia, and the world through developing Inopreneurs (innovation and entrepreneurship ). If this innovation and entrepreneurship is applied to the level of management and all stakeholders, what we want to achieve in four years, if God is willing, then it will be achieved,” said Dr. Parulian.
