drg. Lieando Chandra and drg. Albar Abshar Muhamad, students of Prosthodontics Specialist Dentist Education Program (PPDGS) of Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Indonesia (UI) managed to bring home two champion titles in the Oral Presentation category in the form of Case Report, from the international competition “13th Biennial Congress of the Asian Academy of Prosthodontics”. They won the titles at the event organized by Asian Academy of Prosthodontics in the Philippines.

Drg. Lieando (1st winner) raised a case entitled “Anterior Esthetic Rehabilitation of Failed Splinted Multi-unit Crown”, mentored by FKG UI lecturers Dr. drg. Saraventi, Sp.Pros(K) and drg. Farisza Gita, Sp.Pros(K). Dr. Lieando explained about a case of aesthetic rehabilitation in a patient who had previously had a broken artificial crown restoration.

“The patient’s bad experience and high expectations added to the complexity of this case. Comprehensive examination, effective communication, and careful planning by utilizing Digital Smile Design and semi-adjustable Articulators helped the operator produce a predictable and aesthetically and functionally optimal restoration,” said drg. Lieando.

Drg. Albar Abshar Muhamad (3rd winner) raised the title “Fabrication of Maxillary Single Complete Denture with Class III Jaw Relation: A Case Report”, with the guidance of drg. Muslita Indrasari, M.Kes, Sp.Pros(K). He raised the case of making a conventional single complete denture with a class 3 jaw relation condition, so the manufacture requires special stages so that the denture can be retentive and stable in the oral cavity. The solution proposed by drg. Albar was a modification of tooth preparation, namely antagonistic tooth adjustment with the Yurkstas technique and Lingualized occlusal scheme.

The Head of the Department of Prosthodontia FKG UI Dr. drg. Ira Tanti, Sp.Pros(K) said, “It is a very proud achievement for students specializing in Prosthodontia FKG UI to be able to compete in international competitions. This achievement is inseparable from the enthusiasm and persistence of the students in studying as well as the research process accompanied by lecturers who are very competent in their fields.”

“This international competition is a competition among prosthodontists in Asia that can be used as a very valuable experience,” said the Head of the Prosthodontics Specialist Study Program of FKG UI Dr. drg. Lia Kartika Wulansari Sri Gunoro Puteri, PhD., Sp.Pros(K).

The online competition took place at the end of August 2022, with the Asian Academy of Prosthodontics as the organizer in the Philippines. The Asian-level competition was attended by 450 participants from 13 countries, including Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, India, Nepal, and others.
