To increase bilateral cooperation between the nursing professions in Indonesia and Australia, the Australia-Indonesia Center (AIC), Katalis, and researchers from the Faculty of Nursing (FIK) Universitas Indonesia (UI), Faculty of Medicine (FK-KMK) University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the School of Nursing Monash University, Australia, held a Qualification Equivalence Evaluation Workshop and Field Visit on Tuesday (19/3) and Wednesday (20/3). The workshop entitled “Supporting Increased Bilateral Cooperation Between Indonesian and Australian Nursing Professions” is part of collaborative research activities between these institutions and universities. The implementation was held in Room 212, Building A Cluster of Health Sciences (RIK), UI Depok Campus, and continued with a visit to the UI Hospital (RSUI) on the second day.

In the workshop, the findings of the qualification equality report based on the scope of work provided by Katalis were discussed. The Research Advisory Panel, led by Prof. Ascobat Gani from UI and Prof. Julia Morphet from Monash University, also discussed and provided feedback to the research team.

Dean of FIK UI and Chair of the Central Board of the Association of Indonesian Nursing Education Institutions (AIPNI), Agus Setiawan, S.Kp., M.N., D.N said, “This workshop is an important momentum to gather ideas and strategies to improve bilateral cooperation and strong working networks in Indonesia and Australia in nursing. Through bilingual discussions, participants could share experiences and insights for advancing the nursing profession in both countries. “Thus, the strategic steps taken can significantly impact the progress of the nursing profession in the future.”

The research team involved in this workshop consisted of experts from various faculties at UI. From FIK UI, Prof. Achir Yani Syuhaimie Hamid M.N., D.N.Sc.; Herni Susanti, S.Kp., M.N., Ph.D.; Yudi Ariesta Chandra, S.Kep., Ph.D; Dr Ns. Mega Hasanul Huda, S.Kep., M.A.R.S., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.An., Ph.D; and Ns. Giur Hargiana, S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.J. Next, from the UI Faculty of Public Health (FKM), Andrio Adiwibowo, S.Sc., M.Sc. Meanwhile, from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UI, Prof. dra. Evi Fitriani, M.A., Ph.D. Moreover, experts from UGM, Monash University, and representatives from AIC and Katalis were also involved.

The workshop will facilitate discussion and feedback from experts, academics, nurse practitioners, and government bodies from both countries. Therefore, representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the Indonesian Consulate General in Perth, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) from the Australian Embassy in Jakarta were also present.

This event was also attended by representatives from Indonesian and Australian nursing associations and institutions, including Dr. Pramita Iriana (Association of Indonesian Nursing Vocational Education Institutions), Dr. Eni Nuraini Agustini (Indonesian National Nurses Association), Dr. Amelia (Nursing Council), Prof. Elly Nurachmah (Indonesian Higher Health Education Independent Accreditation Institute), Leah Bradley (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia & Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), Alan Merritt (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council), Dr. Jane Douglas (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation), and Karin White (Monash Health).
