Universitas Indonesia (UI) through the Directorate of Student Affairs gave appreciation to more than 120 scholarship sponsors who have contributed to the process of organizing education throughout 2022. This appreciation was given considering that more than 8,000 UI students received the benefit from donations from the sponsors, both in the form of scholarships and tuition fee waivers. This appreciation took place last Tuesday (22/11), at Makara Art Center UI.

On that occasion, Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. err. nat. Abdul Haris expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all scholarship sponsors who have contributed to developing excellent human resources of Indonesia. According to Prof. Haris, UI has a challenge to build a reputation in order to guarantee the quality of graduates. The key word in building UI’s reputation is through global engagement, one of which is carried out by students.

“In order to be able to compete at the national and global levels, UI strives to provide great education for all students. Therefore, UI provides three sources of assistance, which are scholarships from the government, scholarships from non-government, and tuition fee waivers from UI. In accordance with Permendikbud Number 3 of 2020 concerning National Standards for Higher Education, UI has provided scholarships to almost 20% of the total number of students. This scholarship is not only given for undergraduate education, but also for masters and doctoral degrees,” said Prof. Harris.

Of the 122 scholarship sponsors, Daewoong Foundation and Daewoong Group, which have been working with UI since 2013, were selected as the Most Dedicated Partner. Daewoong Foundation did not only provide assistance in the form of scholarships, but also made a donation of USD 3 million for the construction of the UI–Daewoong Foundation Bioanalysis Laboratory. This laboratory is intended to assist the development and research based on biopharmaceuticals, health and pharmaceuticals, both by UI academics community and external parties.

“On behalf of Daewoong Foundation and Daewoong Group, I would like to thank and appreciate UI for the award given to our company. Through this award, we hope that the relationship between Daewoong and UI will become even closer and produce various kinds of achievements, especially in the fields of health and the development of pharmaceutical sciences. We also continue to strive to provide wider opportunities for talented people from UI to work together with our research team and to make a real contribution to the improvement of the life quality of Indonesian people,” said Anisah Firda Rachmani, the Researcher Daewoong Bio Analysis Center UI-Daewoong.

In the last ten years, UI has endeavored and coordinated the awarding, selection, and distribution of scholarships for students, especially students who are outstanding yet financially less well-off. According to the Director of Student Affairs Dr. Badrul Munir, S.T., M.Eng. UI scholarship recipients are students who have strong determination, who struggle to the fullest from remote areas, such as Papua, Sabang, Badui, and various other places that need support for equal distribution of learning opportunities for all generations of the nation .

One student who showed this enthusiasm was Marno Sunarya, a Badui student from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Marno is one of the beneficiaries of Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP-K) issued by the government. Apart from Marno, three other scholarship recipients also attended the event, namely Bachtiar Mardiansya (Vocational Education Program student who received a Bidikmisi scholarship), Juditha Danuvanya (Faculty of Administrative Sciences student who received a Bank Indonesia scholarship), and Cyntia Gozali (Faculty of Medicine student who received a Daewoong scholarship foundation).

The four students wrote their inspirational stories in the book Jaket Kuning untuk Semua, which is the fourth series of “Jaket Kuning” books launched by UI. In the book, there are more than thirty stories from scholarship recipients that can inspire, especially for those who wish to continue their education at UI. Through the scholarship program, UI encourages students to continue to excel, focus on developing their own capacities, and bring prosperity to themselves. Scholarships also spur motivation, change the way of life, and open opportunities for Indonesian young generations to obtain an equal education.
