International Peace Foundation cooperated with several universities in Indonesia to hold
series of event titled “ASEAN Bridges: Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace” that will be
held from January to March 2017.
The matter was mentioned on press conference that was held on Wednesday, October 12 th
2016 at Dharmawangsa Hotel, Jakarta Timur. The press conference was attended by
Jusuf Kalla, Vice President of The Republic of Indonesia (RI) that was appointed as
Honorary Chairman of Bridges Indonesia.
Bridges is a series of seminar that talks about recent issues that happened in the world on
politics, economy, science and culture.
The topics are brought by nobel laureates that will travel around Indonesia to share global
issues that has educational value.
The event has big goal to develop peace culture on the world level and ASEAN.
The culture is developed by seminar discussion forums that try to connect the
understanding between ASEAN perspective and global interest issues.
In his speech, Jusuf Kalla said that discussion forums like Bridges are important.
“Peace is not created by weapons or war process, but by discussion, sitting together, then
try to listen and understand perspective from each part, thus, peace will be created,” said
him.
Bridges in Indonesia cooperated with 14 universities in Indonesia, among of them are
Universitas Indonesia, Airlangga, Katolik Atma Jaya Indonesia, Gajah Mada, Padjajaran,
Kritsen Petra, and Prasetiya Mulya.
One of the Bridges seminar series will be held at Universitas Indonesia on Wednesday,
February 8 th 2017.
Theme of the seminar will be “Why do you have to love bacteria?” that will be presented by
Dr. Sir. Richard J. Roberts, Research Director of New England Biolabs and nobel laureates
on medicine subject.
