Universitas Indonesia (UI) through UI Tennis Club (CTUI) is holding the UI Tennis Cup 2023 on March 4, 5, 11, and 12, at UI Sports Field. The activity which was a series of UI’s 73rd Anniversary was attended by 160 participants consisting of 48 participants in the team category and 56 pairs in the individual category. Vice Chancellor for HR and Assets Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA said that this activity aims to strengthen the networking of UI academics with UI alumni, stakeholders, and partners. “In the past, tennis was only for lecturers and staff members, now tennis involves students and UI partners,” said Prof. Dedi.
According to Chairman of CTUI Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., apart from strengthening networking, this activity aims to recruit players from UI alumni who will take part in inter-university competitions which are held every year. The UI tennis match is planned to be held again in October and is open to the public. This activity will give an opportunity for UI alumni to come back to campus.
At the opening of UI Tennis Cup 2023, CTUI also announced the initiation to establish UI Tennis Academy. UI will build six international standard outdoor courts which are used for nursery, training, as well as national and international competitions. Through UI Tennis Academy, UI has contributed to creating reliable players by reinvigorating the world of tennis on campus considering that there are many UI students who have potential in this sport. “We invite students to join CTUI so that there will be more potential and excellent representatives from UI in various competitions,” said Dr. Rokhmatullah, who is the Head of the UI Tennis Cup 2023 Committee.
