One of the problems that occur in Depok is the lack of urban green space. “We will continue to make efforts to create urban green space, such as providing parks to the sub-district level, even to the village level, as has been done by the residents of RW 10,” said Head of the Environmental Management and Conservation Division of Depok City Environment Service H. Indra Kesuma, when conveying remarks and marking the end of all community service activities of Architectural Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) which were held at Rukun Warga (RW) 10, Bhakti Jaya Village, Sukmajaya District, Depok City, West Java.

Indra said that his party asked all levels of society and academics to collaborate in finding solutions to this problem in Depok. Aside from being urban green space, according to him, parks can function as a means of sports, education, and recreation, which are affordable and healthy, especially during the pandemic. On the basis of concern for these problems, students of Architectural Engineering FTUI took the initiative to conduct the community service.

One of the community service activities was making murals on the walls of residents’ houses and roads around RW 10, which convey messages to maintain health during the Covid-19 pandemic and give suggestion for maintaining the health of toddlers. Through the message on the mural, it is hoped that people will realize the importance of maintaining health.

At the closing of the community service activities held last Saturday (20/11) at Integrated Healthcare Center of Cempaka RW 10, the committee invited the leaders of Depok, sub-districts, and members of RW 10 area community. Urban Village Head of Bhakti Jaya Iwan Herukusumo said that the RW 10 area was a model village because it has been named the best green village at city and provincial level for four times in a row.

Apart from that, he also thanked the UI community service team for carrying out this activity and synergizing with all levels of society. “We hope that this activity will continue and continue to provide positive energy for the community,” he said.

In this activity, a ribbon-cutting session was held as a sign of the end of all community service activities, followed by a review of the murals made by FTUI students and the RW 10 Bhakti Jaya Depok youth group. As the person in charge of the activity, Tubagus Syarif Hidayatullah, appreciated all parties who have supported the community service activities, so they could be carried out until the last day. He stated that community service activities began on September 4 2021, starting with survey activities, then on September 25 2021 a focus group discussion was held between students and residents to produce an agreement to make murals in RW 10.

Then from October 30 to November 7, 2021, a process of making murals was carried out involving 10 FTUI students assisted by other members of the RW 10 youth group. One of the residents’ representatives who is also the Head of Karang Taruna in RW 10, Yoyok, expressed his gratitude for this community service activity. “Our hope is that community service from FTUI will not be the last community service carried out here. We open the door as wide as possible for other faculties at UI to do community service in the RW 10 Bhakti Jaya area,” he said. At the end of the event, video highlights were played during community service activities and closed with a group photo.
