Thursday (29/7), National Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) was held by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) in collaboration with Universitas Indonesia (UI) as the hosting of the event. This opening ceremony was the beginning of a series of Pilmapres events which lasted until October 1. The opening was held live at Makara Art Center (MAC) UI and broadcast live on the National Achievement Center’s and Directorate of Student Affairs UI’s YouTube channel.

The national Pilmapres held at UI was the final stage of a series of previous Pilmapres at the university and regional levels. In this final stage, there were 30 outstanding student finalists consisting of 15 undergraduate level students and 15 vocational level students. In addition, the jury was also present at this opening ceremony.

In his remarks, Badrul Munir, Ph.D. as the Director of Student Affairs of UI hopes that the outstanding student finalists can give their best in this competition so that they can become the national role models. Munir also said that UI is ready to support this activity as the host. “We as the host try to accommodate and support our finalists to show the best side of themselves,” said Munir.

Asep Sukmayadi as the Head of the National Achievement Center hopes that this event can become a medium for developing the potentials of the participants. Asep also said that Pilmapres is an event held to be able to provide experience and opportunities for outstanding students to develop their achievements. “This is what we present to students. The selection of outstanding students is an event to provide the students experience as well as opportunities to create, take part, be of benefit to oneself, family, campus, nation and country,” Asep explained in his remarks.

Fadlul Hakim, who is a Pilmapres alumnus, also attended the opening ceremony online to share messages for the Pilmapres finalists. Fadlul said that achievement must be demonstrated by real and useful contributions. This 2021 Pilmapres alumnus said that there were many benefits obtained from his participation in last year’s Pilmapres. By taking part in the Pilmapres, he admitted that he got a lot of experience and opportunities that he could only get there. Fadlul also advised the finalists to keep trying as much as possible but in a calm condition. Apart from that, Fadlul also reminded them to keep in touch and establish good relations with other participants even though they are in a competition.
