Universitas Indonesia (UI) became an important part of two event that was held by Asian Universities
Alliance (AUA) in China on April 8 th to 11 th 2018. During the 4 days there were two event, that were AUA
Board Meeting at Pullman Oceanview Sanya Bay Resort & Spa, Sanya and Boao Forum Asia (BFA)
Forum for Asia 2018 Annual Conference at Helsheng Ballroom, Hainan.
In AUA Board Meeting, UI was appointed as Executive Presidency (EP) for period of 2018-2019. The
handover was done by The Vice President, Pomthong Malakul, from Chulalongkorn University as AUA
Executive President for 2017-2018 to Rector of UI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met.
By this appointment, UI will be the host of three AUA event, that are AUA Students Updates on Life Below
Water (Juli 2018), AUA Executives Meeting, and AUA Youth Forum (November, 2018).
Meanwhile in BFA event, UI became one of discussion leader in BFA roundtable session that themed
“Higher Education Roundtable: The Rise of Asian Universities”. In the discussion, participants discussed
the educational cooperation direction in Asia and how it contribute to solve world’s problem.
Besides, it is also discussed about the recent global technology trends, such as artificial intelligence and
bioprocess technology and how the Asian universities adapt with those.
Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) is an Asia regional network organization that initiated by Tsinghua
University, China in 2017 to strengthen collaboration between universities in Asia in education and
economy. 6 from 15 AUA founder universities got into top 50 universities in Asia in Times Higher
Education Asia University Rankings 2017 version.
