UI’s 2022 Career, Internship, Scholarship, and Entrepreneurship (CISE) Virtual Expo, was officially opened on Tuesday (22/3) by Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, also known by his sobriquet Sandi. “The pandemic and shifts in economic structure prompts us to adjust our skill set. It is our hope that this event will prepare the younger generation to grab chances and become winners.

Sandi, himself an accomplished entrepreneur who deals in various sectors of the economy, shared his experiences in the field.Entrepreneurship is not a profession, but entrepreneurship is a mindset,” he said, quipping the English adage. “Entrepreneurship is a mindset consisting of hard work, an optimistic, creative, and innovative attitude towards life, as well as leadership. What should one prepare? A strong motive, learning from the successes and failures of others, proactiveness, courage to take risks, and a global outlook — but with constant consideration of local wisdom.”

The Rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., stated that UI CISE Virtual Expo aims to bring the realm of education and that of employment and industry together, facilitate students and graduates in obtaining information on employment and scholarships, and bridge internship opportunities so as to be more readily accesible to students. “All of these are in line with the Kampus Merdeka policy schemed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.”

Prof. Ari also informed of the soft launching of UI Employer Forum, created “in order to support the downstreaming of industries in the future, thus transitioning Indonesia into an advanced and competent industrialised nation capable of raising the economic prosperity of the Indonesian people.

The opening was attended by the Acting Director of Learning and Student Affairs Dr. Ir. Kiki Yuliati, M. Sc., the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium-sized Businesses Teten Masduki, UI vice chancellors, the Chairman of ILUNI UI Andre Rahadian, S.H., LL.M., M.Sc., Executive Director of Digital Bank at TMRW by OUB Fajar Septandri Maharjaya, Human Capital Director of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk. Last year’s expo, according to Prof. Fika, was attended by 254738 visitors. She stressed that the expo was and is still going to be held during the pandemic, even if in a virtual manner, so as to bring UI alumni together with companies seeking to employ them.

“The pandemic notwithstanding, we are committed to hold our job fair in order to contribute to the improvement of Indonesia’s human resources. We currently encourage partner institutions of higher education to affiliate [themselves with us] in this expo so that as many information on job offers, scholarships, and entrepreneurship opportunities as possible can be made known to and made use of by graduates of institutions of higher education in Indonesia.”

The Expo was organised by UI’s Career Development Center (CDC), a centre of career development for UI alumni under the auspices of the Directorate of Graduate Career Development and Alumni Relations (DPKHA).
