Universitas Indonesia (UI) established a partnership with Indiana University (IU) marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D, and Indiana University President, Pamela Whitten, on Wednesday (17/4), on the Indiana University campus in Indianapolis.

Indiana University is among the top 20 public universities in the United States. The university has nine campuses with 980 academic programs. The nine campuses are the flagship campus in Bloomington, and other campuses in Indianapolis, Columbus, East, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, Northwest, South Bend, and Southeast.

The collaboration between UI and IU will highlight scientific fields, including Public and Environmental Affairs; Business and Organizations; Informatics, Computing, and Engineering; and Education. This collaboration can be expanded considering that IU has excellent programs in Art, Design, Performance; Communication; Science, Tech, Engineering; Health and Wellness; Environment; Society, Community, and Culture; Global Perspectives; and Law and Justice.

In 2024, several of IU’s graduate programs topped the US News rankings in Environmental Policy and Management; Public Finance and Budgeting; Public Management and Leadership; and Nonprofit Management. Moreover, other graduate programs under the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs; Kelley School of Business; School of Education; College of Arts and Sciences; McKinney School of Law; and Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering are in the Top 20 graduate programs in the United States.

This collaboration will be implemented in many activities, such as double degree programs, student mobility, lecturer mobility, research collaboration, and others. These aim benefit the educational institutions and individuals involved as well as the wider community.

UI Rector Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D said that international collaboration between UI and IU is important to build quality global education. “Global education plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources. Quality human resources can be realized through learning the knowledge and skills needed by society. Therefore, through international cooperation, educational institutions can create solutions and produce appropriate innovations to address world challenges,” he said.

Meanwhile, IU President Pamela Whitten said that the relationship between UI and IU has lasted for 65 years and has involved various collaborations in the fields of public administration, education, and business. The signing of the MoU will strengthen and broaden the collaboration in the future.

The MoU signing was also attended by UI representatives, namely the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Logistics, Vita Silvira, S.E., MBA; Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Arief Wibisono Lubis, Ph.D; Chair of the Accounting Department, Yulianti Abbas, Ph.D; Chair of the Economics Department, Vid Adrison, Ph.D; FEB International Class Coordinator, Isfandiarni, Ph.D; and Director of PT Makara Mas, Putra Abbas, MBA. The event was also attended by the Indonesian Consulate General of Chicago, Citra Fatihah.

The representatives from IU consisted of Indiana University Indianapolis Chancellor, Latha Ramchand; Indiana University Bloomington Provost, Rahul Shrivastav; Vice President for International Affairs, Hilary Kahn; Executive Associate Dean for Academic Programs Kelley Business School, Pat Hopkins; Executive Associate Dean O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Brad Heim; Dean School of Education, Stacy Morrone; Dean Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, John Ciorciari; Associate Vice President for International Affairs, Miguel Ayllon; and other unit leaders.
