shutterstock_149991722Universitas Indonesia together with  Tilburg University held public lecture titled “Sustainable Supply Chain Management” on Tuesday, April 19th 2016.

The event that was held at Djoksetono Room, Faculty of Economy and Business UI presents Prof. Bart Vos as main speaker. He is a professor in purchasing management from Tilburg University, Netherlands.

According to  Prof. Bart Vos, Sustainable Supply Chain Management becomes the world’s concern recently. There are lots of company that only focus on profit without considering any other aspects, that leads to disturbed sustainable production.

Company has to consider sustainable production chain that has positif impact for 3P dimention (People, Planet and Profit).

There are many factors that determine SSM (Sustainable Supply Management). Some of them are leadership, strategic choice, long-term prespective, experiment and innovation.

Besides that, Vos also emphasized collaboration, either extern or intern in order to reach Sustainable Supply Management success. Collaboration not only for shareholder, but also all of the stakeholder.

In developing country, the challenge to aplly SSM are surely bigger.

Challenge appears on production, distribution or consumption aspect. Research on Sustainable Supply Management are need to be augmented in developing country such as Indonesia.

Company has to keep on initiating, learning and evaluating in order to reach the sustainability. For Vos, sustainability is an all-time learning and evaluating process.

Vos admited that company initiative to apply SSM sometimes are only based on company’s interest.

Monitoring of SSM implementation are need to be stricted. Government play a vital role in this process. Government has to be a collaborative partner with company to reach Sustainable Supply Management.
