Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Gangwon State University, South Korea, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the fields of education, research, and training. The signing was represented by the Deputy Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets at UI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA, and President of Gangwon State University, Kim Kwang-Rae, on Tuesday (26/3), in Meeting Room A, Floor 2, University Administration Center Building, UI Depok Campus.

The collaboration between UI and Gangwon State University will cover three things: student exchange, research collaboration, and workforce training. Prof. Dedi believes that this collaboration will be a long-term collaboration, considering that UI is committed to expanding global collaboration. “UI as a World Class University continues to ensure the expansion of cooperation with various parties, including Gangwon State University,” he said.

Gangwon State University is located in Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, South Korea. Unlike most public universities in South Korea, this college is managed directly by the Gangwon-do Provincial Government. This university is also famous as a research and educational institution with modern facilities.

Kim Kwang-Rae said that as the only public university in the area, Gangwon State University is responsible for providing quality education to support industrial progress, especially in Gangneung City and its surroundings. This is because Gangwon is one of the provinces in central industrial development in South Korea, providing employment opportunities for workers and students who want to take side jobs.

He also mentioned that Gangwon State University is currently planning free cultural-themed courses for international students. This becomes more interesting because UI and Gangwon State University have the same goal of promoting the culture of each country. “Global Gangwon Culture will open shortly to broaden understanding and acceptance of our culture,” said Kwang-Rae.

Global Gangwon Culture is designed to be followed by international students, especially those with a background in the Korean Studies Program. Since 2006, UI has had a Korean Language and Culture Study Program, so according to Gangwon, UI students have a great opportunity to participate in this program. Besides the student exchange, collaboration will be expanded in technology and workforce training. UI has many institutions and special work units that can collaborate to provide training in various fields.

This discussion was attended by UI representatives, the Director of Cooperation, Dr. Toto Pranoto, S.E., M.M.; Head of the Public Relations and KIP Bureau, Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Sc.; Cooperation and Venture Manager, Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Eva Latifah, S.S., Ph.D; and Head of Sub-Directorate of Intellectual Property and Promotion, Directorate of Innovation and Science Techno Park (DISTP), Krisnayanto, S.H., M.H., CGCP, CLA.
