UI—Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University Collaborate to Transform Health Services in Indonesia and China

To establish more intensive academic and research collaboration in the health and medical fields, Universitas Indonesia (UI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zhongshan Hospital which is affiliated with Fudan University, China. In this online meeting, UI Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., Sp, OF(K) said that research and resource collaboration is not only aimed at advancing the two institutions, but also at encouraging community happiness through improving health services.

Furthermore, she also conveyed a message from the Rector of UI, Prof. Ari Kuncoro S.E., M.A., Ph.D., who appreciates this collaboration and hopes that the partnership between UI and Zhongshan Hospital can be strong in the future. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Zhongshan Hospital. This partnership has great potential to transform health services in Indonesia and China. By facilitating staff exchanges and training programs, medical experts can learn from each other’s experiences and create a global network in the healthcare sector,” said drg. Nurtami.

The meeting held on Friday (3/11) was chaired by the Assistant President of Zhongshan Hospital, Prof. Tang Qiqun and continued with a speech by the President of Zhongshan Hospital, Prof. Fan Jia. Prof. Fan Jia congratulated the signing of this MoU. According to him, this new collaboration can strengthen the partnership between UI and Zhongshan Hospital.

“This MoU is an important milestone in efforts to expand cooperation in the health sector in China and Indonesia. This initiative aims to enable the exchange of knowledge, experience and pave the way for improving education in the field of medical research and practice. “We are confident that this partnership will have a positive impact on both countries, which will contribute to the development of a strong health service system,” said Prof. Fan Jia.

The MoU signed by these two institutions includes a number of cooperation agreements that focus on increasing medical resources in both countries as well as maximizing research collaboration in the health sciences. In general, UI and Zhongshan Hospital will collaborate in student, researcher, and staff exchanges to conduct training programs for health workers, especially in the fields of cardiology, oncology, endoscopy, radiotherapy, and intensive care science.

More than just research and innovation collaboration, the two institutions plan to develop a remote consultant center of excellence to provide disease diagnosis services remotely. UI together with Zhongshan Hospital will also establish the ‘UI-FDZS’ Medical and Health Education Center to organize various conference, workshop, and symposium activities aimed at encouraging increased health workforce resources.

Together with drg. Nurtami was also present the representatives from UI, including the Dean of the UI Faculty of Medicine (FK), Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, Sp.PD-KGEH, MMB; Head of the Center for Independent Learning (CIL) UI Fransiskus Astha Ekadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc.; and UI Research and Development Director, Munawar Khalil, S.Si., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D. Other representatives of Zhongshan Hospital include the Secretary of Zhongshan Hospital Party Committee, Prof. Gu Jianying; Vice President of Zhongshan Hospital, Prof. Cang Jing; Director of President’s Office, Prof. Xie Xiaofeng; Director of International Medical Center, Prof. Chen Dan; and Vice Director of the President’s Office, Prof. Zhu Yanjun.
