Eight students of the Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economic and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI) who are members of two teams, namely the Viridis Team and the DJPM Team, each won the title of Champion(1st place) and won the Best Video category in Deloitte Tax Challenge (DTC) 2022 event organized by Deloitte Indonesia.

The Viridis team consisting of Arinda Dara Ninggar, Gabriel Fiorentino Setiadin, Irene Rosari Narindraningtyas, and Muhammad Netado Sanrego, solved a case regarding international taxation of intangible assets. The cases presented focused on thin capitalization, transfer pricing, Country by Country Reporting(CbCR), value chain analysis, and the use of DEMPE (Development, Enhancement, Maintenance, Protection, Exploitation). The Viridis team presented data from various sources, including Deloitte Publications, The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations, Danny Darussalam Tax Center (DDTC), Regulations of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia or the Directorate General of Taxes, and articles- articles written by various Public Accounting Firms (KAP).

The Deloitte Tax Challenge 2022 is a national level competition for university students throughout Indonesia to improve deep and comprehensive critical thinking skills, enrich knowledge in the field of international taxation, and develop public speaking in presentations. The winner of the competition was announced online, on Wednesday (2/2).

“The biggest challenge during the competition is that our team has to study the subject matter that has not been taken on international tax because we have only studied Indonesian tax. Of course, Team Viridis is very grateful for this incredible victory. Bearing in mind, several times we had difficulty in studying the material and working on tax cases, but we still tried to do it. So, this is a very memorableand full of learning experience for our team,” said Gabriel, an undergraduate student in Accounting, a member of the Viridis Team.

On the same occasion, the DJPM Team consisting of Joeylin, Kenzo Jovin Princen Lee, Muhammad Fauzan Athallah and Ni Putu Ayu Kartika Diva Putri, won the Best Video category. The DJPM team made a video about the impact of the Carbon Tax Policy on Indonesia in accordance with the theme of DTC 2022. The ideas and data in the process of making the video came from research results from several online publications and relevant sources such as the OECD and The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( UNFCCC).

“Our team works together and coordinates to determine the dominant material to be mastered. Commitment is also very much needed, because the preparation process for this competition is quite long and our team agreed to study together every day, “said Kenzo.

In the Preliminary Round stage of this competition, five representative teams from Universitas Indonesia managed to qualify along with 11 other teams from public and private universities in Indonesia. Then, participants were screened to compete in the Final Round and only the best five teams could advance to this stage, namely two teams from Faculty of Economic and Business Universitas Indonesia (Viridis Team and DJPM), Gadjah Mada University, Surabaya University, and Atmajaya Catholic University of Indonesia.

The conditions that must be met to take part in DTC 2022 are that participants are students and form a team of four members from the same university and come from accounting, taxation, business, economics, finance study programs in semesters five to eight. In addition, each member must attach a Curriculum Vitae (CV) along with a transcript. Other requirements, members are advised to have the ability to speak English in writing and presentations, because all competitions are conducted in English.
