The leaders of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) together with representatives from 15 Legal Entity State Universities (PTN-BH) discussed preparations for the socialization of the launch of the endowment fund for 16 PTNBH. The event was held at the Depok Campus and lasted two days, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) and the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP), the Indonesian Ministry of Finance. The discussion was attended by the Rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D.; Universitas Indonesia Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. grout. Abdul Haris; Universitas Indonesia Vice Chancellor for Finance and Logistics, Vita Silvira, S.E., Ak., MBA., CA.; Universitas Indonesia Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., Sp, OF(K); and Universitas Indonesia Vice Chancellor for HR and Assets, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA.

Meanwhile, representatives of 15 PTN-BH who attended were Vice Chancellors for Finance from each university, including the Bandung Institute of Technology, Bogor Agricultural University, Diponegoro University, Gadjah Mada University, Padjadjaran University, Sepuluh November Institute of Technology, Airlangga University, University of Hasanuddin, North Sumatera University, Indonesian Education University, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta, Andalas University, Brawijaya University, Malang State University, and Padang State University.

In his welcoming speech, Prof. Ari said that there were changes in the dynamics of educational institutions. These changes are related to the management of endowments. According to Prof. Ari, despite having different visions and missions, in principle all state universities have the same goal, namely to become a world class university. “To achieve this goal, all parties, including leaders, lecturers, employees, students, and university civitas, must have internal and external engagement (alumni, industry, and government). This engagement development will lead the institution to become a world class university,” said Prof. Ari.

According to Vita Silvira, with the launch of the endowment fund, university funding at PTN-BH no longer relies on the government and a single tuition fee (UKT). As stated by the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim, only universities with PTN-BH status are able to manage financial assets independently. Through this program, universities can learn how to manage their finances independently as at one of the world-class universities, namely the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Later, the endowment that was launched to 16 PTN-BH will be used to improve the quality of higher education by developing research, carrying out community service, and easing the burden of student UKT costs. “This endowment fund is a fund formed by the university with the aim of collecting a number of funds that will be managed specifically so that the results from the management of these funds can be used to support the Tridharma of Higher Education without reducing the principal value of the fund,” said Vita Silvira. In managing the endowment, PTN-BH is expected to be able to maximize the budget for the benefit of the university by building solutions, strategies, and policy analysis. In order to make PTN-BH a world class university like MIT, it requires the cooperation of stakeholders, the academic community, alumni, and the entire community to build a common goal, namely implementing the endowment program.

The meeting was held at the same time as having dinner at a restaurant located on the UI Depok campus, on Wednesday (20/07). The event ran smoothly and was full of kinship which was escorted by a security team from the UI Campus Environmental Security Technical Implementation Unit (UPT PLK). In addition to discussing the endowment fund, the meeting was also a form of friendship to strengthen UI’s relationship with the PTN-BH campus. “Because basically an institution cannot run alone, there needs to be teamwork and collaboration from various parties. PTNBH is one of them,” said Vita Silvira
